Slo de Vie Distillery — Local services in Grover Beach

My husband, dog and I visited Pismo and Grover Beach the weekend of 3/1. We hiked the Grand Dune and arrived at Slo de Vie at 12:00pm. We were somewhat embarrassed to be visiting a tasting room at that time! Andrew (if I recall his name accurately), and Thomas were the only other people there when we arrived. I let them know that I'd never visited a distillery before. Thomas took over and gave us what felt like a VIP experience. He answered all of our questions, and we started the tasting with the Fig Aquardente. Soon a young couple, and their parents came in and joined the group. The new guest seemed to have more experience and familiarity with distilleries than we did, but Thomas was great at accommodating all levels of taster. We had a wonderful time. I learned about the heads and tails, and the heart of the spirit, and our dog was welcomed to stay by our side throughout. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience more than I could have imagined. We are very excited to visit again with some family members who'll enjoy the tasting, especially to hear of the Old World recipes and the history of how Slo de Vie came about! We ended up purcahsing a few bottles - Aguadente Branca (the "flour"), Aguardente Anise, and Grappa Supremo....

I received a tour and tasting from Anatoly and it was the highlight of my weekend vacation in the area. Anatoly provided excellent detail as to the distilling process, how distilling from grapes differs from other types of distillations, and offered lots of advice on how to enjoy each of their offerings. I tried a number of unique and enjoyable spirits and bought a bottle of gin (the best I've ever had) to take home. Great product and customer service.

Order a couple bottles for Father's Day and it was scheduled to arrive a couple days beforehand. FedEx had messed up on the delivery and sent it back to SLO de Vie. I contacted Slo de Vie and they were already working on the issue and were able to send out another shipment and it arrived with time to spare.
