B B Hair Braiding — Local services in Hamden

I got my hair braided by BB in June of 2025 When I made the initial appointment, she told me it would take about 4 hours to do my hair. My appointment was for 10 am and when I arrived, she was there and ready to do my hair, which was a plus. The style took her 2.5 hours to complete. I noticed the time frame was cut short because she was using a lot of my own hair in each braid. I also noticed that when she got closer to completing the style, she had run out of my own hair and began using tiny strands of hair to fill in the spacing on my scalp. By the time she finished, I noticed that I had a large part that made it look like a bald spot because she used to much hair in the other braids to get done quickly because she had another client waiting. I wasn’t unhappy with the outcome because I was able to hide the large part she left by wearing the style in a ponytail. About a week later, I noticed that the braids she used strands of my hair for were slipping. They also twisted up to the point that the braid was snapping off, taking the strand of hair with it. I’d also like to note that when I asked her questions about the style while she was braiding my hair, she would snap at me with an attitude and not one time in the 2.5 hours did she engage in conversation with me. I wish I had read all of the negative reviews prior to getting my hair done at this establishment. Needless to say I will not ever return. I can only hope if and when I do decide to get my hair braided again, I find a African braider who takes pride in her work and does the job she is being paid to do. These short cuts are a rip off and it is not what a customer expects when he or she is spending their hard earned money....

Went there on 9/4/2021 to get my hair braided for a a crochet style I was doing on myself (I got straight back cornrows) the price was good ($40) but throughout the week my scalp began to be irritated, itchy and sore. I thought all I needed was some braiding anti-itch spray so I purchased that and some hair grease to moisturize my scalp but that didn't work at all!!! Long story short I couldn't keep in my crochet braids I took them out and the braids on a weeks time. I've been treating my scalp with alcohol and peroxide. I washed it today 9/12/2021 my scalp is still irritated. Looking back on my visit the woman that braided my hair used old hair (I believe it was synthetic and not kanakolan) I didn't pay any attention to this at the time because shops do this all the time but I'm not sure where it was stored prior to installing it because she had it on the chair waiting for me when I returned back from the ATM. Also, I don't know what type of gel or product she used to smooth my hair as she braided each cornrow. If you go there just pay attention to the hair they're using as well as products. I would not recommend them due to the current condition my scalp is in right now. Hopefully my scalp will return to it's...

My 15 Year old granddaughter brought in a picture of how she wanted her hair. They said they can do it. The braids she wanted were a nice natural size. However they attached humongous braids on small sections of her hair. The amount of hair they attached to each small section was very unhealthy to hold from her scalp. When my granddaughter called me to tell me this, I called them immediately to inform them they are not doing her hair like the picture she showed them. The woman was yelling at me saying “there’s a PICTURE then there’s REALITY” ?!— SAY WHAT ??? You are being paid to do her hair like she asked - not the way you feel like doing it. If you couldn’t do it like she requested , then say “ I can’t do it”. By this time her hair was only half done and they knew my granddaughter was going home to take them out but they had the nerve to still charge her $90. THIRSTY!!!! Which is half price of the full style she requested. BOTTOM LINE : BAD SERVICE!!! so They definitely lost a customer I hope that $90 was worth it to you!! Learn to do hair in a healthy style. Why do you guys always add a ton of heavy hair knowing it’s hazardous to the scalp????? VERY UNHAPPY CUSTOMER!!!!!!...
