This could have been a negative review based on my initial experience entering the store. My husband & I wanted to buy a gas grill. The employee from the Garden Dept was very inexperienced.....tried to tell us a natural gas grill and a propane grill were the same thing. We politely had a “prior forgotten appt” and decided to return the next day when another of our favorite (& knowledgeable) employees was working.
Next day, I returned (husband working) to discover the employee who regularly assisted us, had worked earlier that day. The service desk rep had not one person on duty who could help me. Here I wanted to spend over $500 and no one could assist me.....very frustrating !
When I asked to speak with a manager, BTW, was told none were available ? on a weekend day ? Really ? I was directed to an employee named Darrin (sp ?)
Darrin truly took the time to assist me. He listened.....VERY IMPORTANT in customer service !! We went to a computer where he checked both in-store & online stock then tried to figure out how the HD coupon I received in the mail could be used....(initially I had some challenges over in store purchase vs. online purchase a/k/a the small print).
Darrin told me that there might be an already assembled natural gas grill in store, but he needed to confirm this with the dept. manager. He took my number and promised to call the next day.
By 6 pm I’d had no call and I thought the typical ending to a horrible experience. As if on cue.....the call came ! My faith in HD was restored !!! Darrin exemplifies what great customer service is. Not only was there a grill, he’d have it waiting at the service desk for pick up that night. Darrin was working when we got there. He helped us bring it to our vehicle, but not before he took measurements to make sure it would fit.

Read moreThe customer service here is an absolute joke. We had the misfortune of coming here because the picnic table we wanted to buy was supposedly in stock (more on this below). Literally every single associate we went to were completely useless. I am not exaggerating when I say they gave us the cold shoulder. We asked if they can help us locate the item, they would either look down or just walk away somewhere else. They couldn’t even bother to help us in the least bit, one girl giving my girlfriend a complete attitude as if we weren’t even allowed to seek help.
More on the picnic table: online said Hamden had 12 in stock. Not 1, not limited, TWELVE. After we were fed up by the complete disrespect by every single associate we had encountered, we left the store and decided to do curbside pickup because again, everyone was useless. 10 minutes later I get a text saying my order was cancelled because it was out of stock. How. Do. You. Mess. That. Up? The store needs to completely clean house of every lazy associate that’s employed there.
After we were fed up with our experience, we went to our usual store in North Haven and the service was night and day. One of the customer service ladies was on the phone for 20 minutes with another store trying to make sure the picnic table we were looking for was in stock. The Hamden associates really need to learn from other stores on how to better take care of their customers. This experience was absolutely inexcusable and you best believe I will be sending this feedback...
Read moreBy far the worst Home Depot around, ask anyone for help...its not their section and they keep walking. You look around and there is four of them on their phones. Ive got the confirmation email and text that what ive ordered is ready for pickup, get there four and a half hours later ( one hour before closing) and told its still on the truck and if i can come back tomorrow, but I cant so they say ive to wait 35 minutes for them to get it. Three times this as happened. I dont know who the manager is of this store but they have to be clueless. Ive went to other Home Depots further away for materials rather than come here. Better stock and attitudes in North Haven go there instead.
Update: ended up waiting over an hour for this order, FIVE AND A HALF HOURS after i got the email it was ready for pickup. I got the order ten minutes before closing, I asked the lady at service desk for the manager and hes unavailable for ten to fifteen minutes because hes with a customer....yeah right. They obviously didn't want to unload the delivery truck and wanted to leave it for next shift not that it would be any better. No one follows up on delivery unloading in this place....zero management..none. Ill be contacting Home Depot regional management about today, it was the worst ever but not at all surprising...
