Been meaning to try this gem for a while - finally made it today. It is literally a hole in the wall. Located off Dixwell between Alltown and Home Depot.
Plenty of street parking.
There is a walk up window but it was closed. You walk in and place your order. Takes a few minutes to prepare. The menu is online as well.
We tried the beef, chicken chipotle, chicken jalapeño, pork, guava. We shared them so we could try a bunch of different ones.
Next time, we will get our own! :) Crust is flaky and not greasy at all. The filling is flavorful and tastes fresh.
The guava is outstanding- one of the best I have had. Chipotle chicken was our favorite of the savory ones. The jalapeño has a slight spicy kick but it’s just right. The jalapeño is flavored throughout the filling so you aren’t biting into a chunk of jalapeño. Very nicely done.
They take cards. Service is courteous and prompt. Not fancy at all but definitely worth a stop.
They take large catering orders so will make a great addition to an office party. We will surely get some for our next celebration.
There are daily specials as well. Today’s was curry chicken and...
Read moreLove their empanadas but mostly enjoy their grilled chicken. Cutlets are a little high in salt for my taste, but the grilled chicken is perfect. I have it on a sub or sometimes on a roll. The price is always right. Best thing I like to do is add Avocado to a grilled chicken sandwich: heaven. Their beans are also very good. I've have their entrees with rice and beans; I prefer white rice as the yellow rice is a little too oily and salty for my preference. I try to eat low salt, low sugar, and low oils so it's hard to find food fresh and delicious enough. This place is it! Deff one of my favs in the area, always sad to see it close on Monday's but again, try out their food and find your new fav dishes. I believe this style of empanadas is more from the Andean/South American region, which I prefer as I'm also from that area. My fav empanadas are beef and salmon. So glad they have non-red meat options for their empanadas. Overall, love...
Read moreThis place changed my life. Genuinely no exaggeration. It restored my faith in humanity. The staff were so kind doing their best when my friend and I rolled in at 7 am on a roadtrip on a whim. They served us lunch empanadas even though it was literally 7 am and they hadn't had time to prep yet and STILL got it out in like 5 minutes. The staff were so sweet and made great conversation, and even asked for our feedback on the menu (we had none-- the prices are unbelievable and the variety is indescribable). We got the spinach and cheese and the Philly chicken cheese and I can't even begin to describe how good they were. Clearly homemade and also the best empanadas either of us has ever had. The crust was perfect-- flaky, not oily or soggy like so often happens with empanadas. The fillings tasted like love. I honestly don't have words please just go and give this incredible place your business. Our entire meal was 6$ which...
