The husband and wife duo of Herbs of India are incredibly sweet, funny, knowledgeable, and welcoming of any and every culture. Whether you are a culinary amateur or pro, they have something for you to try!
"New" and "different" sounds scary to many people, especially here in Louisiana. But if you ask me, Indian food is arguably the most flavorful food in the world.
Recently, me & my husband went into the Herbs of India store to try their dessert called "Falooda" which is a popular ice cream dessert that has mango, sweet rose syrup, crushed pistachios, ice cream, and shaved ice. It was extremely refreshing and unique.
Today, me & my husband ate one of their dinner plates which included butter chicken, palak paneer (spinach & Indian cheese), tadka dal (seasoned yellow lentils), mixed veg, raita (yogurt), aloo gobhi (cauliflower & potato), fresh basmati rice, fresh garlic naan, and gulab juman (Indian milk doughnuts). Everything was delicious and was obviously homemade, well worth the price.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreHerbs of India is a South Asian market in Hammond, Louisiana. You can find it right off the Interstate. With unbeatably-low prices, lovely owners, and goods you can't find anywhere else, I cannot recommend stopping in more. The people there are very helpful---telling you how to prepare everything you buy, and they are always happy to talk about what they're offering (which is useful, because it is directly from India, and some of the labels are not in English). The stock is growing week by week, and in the several times I've bought stuff there so far, I've never been disappointed. The store isn't very big, and it's well-organized, so you don't have to worry about losing too much time going in, but if you're not in any hurry, you can find yourself enraptured in lovely conversation with either or both of the owners.
Highly recommend! And hopefully someday soon you'll be able to find them at the Hammond...
