We certainly appreciate finally having an extensively stocked hardware store in the area, and are particularly grateful since it's within walking distance of our home. The Talbert Hardware down the road was nice to have, and saved many longer trips to Home Depot or Lowe's, but just as often they didn't have what I was after; the Ace sometimes will meet that limitation too, I'm sure, but their larger floor space and stock holds more promise. The staff is always ready to help me locate something specific or offer advice on a project or proffer options. What one staff member doesn't know is more often than not known by another, and they readily consult as needed to try and further any endeavor I'm pursuing.
It's also nice to now have a close source of propane refill so we don't have to do the "trading tanks" thing; often the tanks in those cages are all empty, plus our tank has special fittings best attended by refilling, not trading away. Additionally, we have an RV with a built-in propane tank; with plenty of room to the east on their lot, we can pull our RV easily alongside their large tank for refills before camping trips. We no longer have to go all the way to Hometown Fireplace and BBQ store on Otty Rd. for BBQ propane (they are closing and moving to another as yet uncertain location anyway), or go RVing with a partially filled tank.
It's also nice to have gardening supplies close by, so when in the middle of a project I can run up for something and get it done, rather than the usual routine... wait several days until the next time I'm near a garden center some miles away.
And who can dismiss the cash we've already saved, since the store opened, by way of their Rewards program? The new Ace is a very positive addition to the community and a particularly welcome one for local...
Read moreJust don't go to this Ace if possible. You won't get good customer service, and you'll be making calls for days to get your money back if you have a return. First off, don't think you'll get any help from associates if you're wandering around looking for stuff. The shorter guy in the paint department was doing a good job of avoiding me. Hello, if you are in the paint department, you probably have some questions. Secondly, there was poop smeared on the toilet seat and on the floor in the women's restroom. I'm guessing an employee didn't do that, but it definitely added to the bad experience. Thirdly, I ordered from the app, which has excellent savings, but I needed to return a couple of items from my order. The "girl", Izzy I think her name is, was so bothered by my two returns. She had trouble processing them and told me that I needed to follow up with the phone number at the top of the receipt to make sure it went through. Well, the number at the top of the receipt is my phone number. Lol. When I called the store a couple of days later, I was told the manager would be gone until Saturday and to call back then. I wasn't able to call on Saturday, so I called the following Wednesday, 9 days after my return, and was told to call back after 11 to speak to the manager. I was never offered follow-up to reassure that the return went through or offered for the manager to call me! I'm just doing all of the work to get my money back for items Ace has! I've worked customer service in a similar position and I know that every one of the employees has room for...
Read moreA terrible customer experience at Ace Hardware, Happy Valley.
Called the store and spoke with Andrew when I made an online purchase asking if I could get a military discount when I picked up my order. He checked and told me yes. Picked up a few days later and was told by Steve, the manager, that NO I could not get the discount. When I explained my call to Andrew and I asked Steve why they had different answers to same question.
He said online and store are different companies. When I asked the difference, he raised his voice and jumped on me asking me if I wanted to him to tear up the order and get my money back..in front of the cashier. Clearly, this is a bad look for a manager. There is nothing ACE friendly here. I had never shopped at ACE before, never will again. The question I have for ACE is "Is this acceptable behavior for a manager who should be leading by example in front of his employees and grooming them for future responsibility? Is this the...
