Koeppel Community Sports Center — Local services in Hartford

Before coming here I not only checked the bantam sports website but I called to make sure it was open. The website listed the open skate hours and made no mention of being closed on January 2nd. I called and the person I spoke to had no clue as to whether the skating rink was open and transferred me to the athletic department. No one picked up but there was no mention of the rink being closed on the voicemail message either. So I drove over 30 minutes to the rink to have a fun day with a friend from out of state only to met with a sign on the door apologizing for the inconvenience. There would not have to be an apology if the information was stated on the website or if it was said on the phone voicemail or if the staff knew what was going on. This morning, at the end of a youth hockey game while the teams were shaking hands the Zamboni driver came out on to the ice and started driving around. The referees tried to stop him and stand in front of the machine while blowing whistles. He refused to stop and continued making ice with kids still on the surface. He drove in front of the exit door causing the kids to have to move to the center to avoid being hit. He smiled while parents and coaches yelled for him to stop. I’ve been involved with youth hockey for 20 years and have never witnessed such unprofessional and dangerous behavior from a rink employee....
