The day after I was admitted w/oxygen, from the hospital recovering from a pulmonary embolism, my two daughters and granddaughter (6) came to see me. My GD walked in, turned around and ran out crying. She couldn't stand the smell. I had remembered hearing employees in the hall discussing a smell, but due to the O2, I only smelled it when I went to the bathroom. My oldest yelled at them long enough, that they finally found another room. But both of them said it was the smell of PEE.
They gave me my nighttime meds at around midnight night one night, then about 2 hours later came in with my meds again. I refused.
After 48 hours of laying in bed, I informed them that I was there for five days of physical therapy, and they told me it would stay Sunday. I informed the girl Yesterday was Sunday. The physical therapist, make recommendations person came in, and told me I wasn't allowed out of bed. HER orders, I was a fall risk! I told her to call ANY of my doctors, because I really didn't think she knew more than them.
I had to get management to call my insurance company because they had authorized 5 days of physical therapy and after three I had had none. They extended the stay. The next day I went to therapy in a wheel chair, and sat in a chair for 45 minutes, was wheeled back to my room. The following day, I was wheeled again, allowed to walk up three steps and back down, then taken back to my room.
After requesting the doctor several times, and after 48 hours I finally saw him, he told me they would extend my stay. I said no, let me go home. He said I would have to pay out of pocket for leaving without doctors permission. My daughter went over his head. I called the insurance company, told them and said do not allow them to extend the stay. They needed a doctor's authorization. So I told them to call MY doctor. He told them to release me. My daughter came back, said she didn't know. But about an hour later the guy she'd talked to came and said I was being released that day. An actual physical therapist came to the room and asked if I wanted to try and flight of real steps, since she had talked to me on the way to physical therapy and knew that was one of my fears. What if I couldn't do them, and my granddaughter was in the basement... So she actually did help go with me and said I did actually do really well considering.
On the way out, the attending stopped with the wheelchair in the hall, my daughter got tired of waiting in the car, came in and took me to her car. While I was waiting for her, I was looking around at all these signs about things you could do, all you had to do was call for somebody. Funny, nobody told me that. Nobody helped me out of bed.
Also the first breakfast was pancakes with syrup. I asked if hypoglycemia was on my record. The nurse looked and yes it is. I mentioned it was a strange choice of a breakfast, and she said, "That's what they sent!"
Not someplace I think I'll...
Read moreThis facility changed management hands in the late summer of 2021, and from that moment on the quality of care diminished severely. Staffing that had been mainstays at the facility for 2-10 +years left with no explanation leaving temporary or agency staff to do the work without leadership. The original staff that remained were overworked, underpaid, and was just trying to get by. I reported a dead bird on the sidewalk during my Friday visit, the dead bird 5 feet from the front entrance was still there on the Sunday when I returned for a visit. I asked again for the bird to be removed. Management said things would get better, they did not. I would visit my loved one 2 to 3 times a week. There would be residents alone in the dining room with no staff to ring me in on at least 50% of my visits. I inquired why my loved one was not bathed at least once a week. Other residents were not showered and shaved and were in soiled clothes. I was told there was limited staffing to do such things. I was told the facility was hiring a new beautician, but in 6 months, that did not happen. Activities that were on the calendar were never carried out. Residents never left the facility on outings. Hot meals at dinner with previous ownership became cold sandwiches on white bread with pudding and processed soups. Residents had no access to fresh fruit, juices, or water during the day. I observed little interaction of staff with residents, always in their room. Temporary staff was on their phones, listening to music videos (saw this twice) and would ignore me or walk away when asking for help. My loved one's mental health declined and I am so thankful I found the support to relocate her to a new community. After I had given my notice, I was confronted by the new director as to why I was leaving in the Spring of 2022. The interactions felt like I was just a pay check to the facility and nothing more. I asked myself why does my loved one matter to you now that I am leaving?. Do your homework on every memory care facility and read department of health reports and talk to current family members with loved ones in...
Read moreI have never ever been so disappointed In a facility. I encourage you to visit this place and really look around before you choose it. I'm sorry I didn't have the time to do so. Some of the staff is very courteous. Some of the staff is absolutely horrid. My husband's nurse was very disrespectful very curt and make comments she should've never made. The woman at the front desk was very rude when I told her I wanted to make sure my husband was washed before he left. She told me my husband is not a baby. She made comments she should've never made. When I asked for the name of the administrator she gave me a hard time, told me she didn't know who it was. The nursing staff was late coming in so I couldn't even speak to a nurse on his day of discharge. The only thing that was good in this place was the physical therapist. I believe they have too many patients per physical therapist and therefore have to split their time. This is not good. The place is in desperate need of repair and renovation. My husband had two mice in his room. This is a disgrace. This is very upsetting. I would never ever recommend this place to anyone. Horrible horrible experience. To put it quite bluntly, it's a dump. The beds are a mess, and my husband said the food is horrible. Please do yourself a favor, go look for yourself. The smell in the hallway is awful. My daughter held her coat over her face. No room deodorizers. Smells going into the hallways. I can't say enough about how much I hated this place and how much I can't wait to go today to have him discharged out of here. I am also reporting this to my...
