O-M-G!!! If you have never had, or don't know what Donkey Balls are, you don't know what you are missing! Love Mac nuts, love chocolate??? You'll love Donkey Balls! They're primarily on the Big Island, but sometimes able to find on other islands...at least Maui, that I know of. (Or, you can get them shipped to your home, if you crave them after leaving Paradise!) There is a shop in downtown Kona, but we like going to the original store, maybe 45 min. South of Kona. They'll gladly give you samples of their various flavors...but that only makes it harder to decide on your favorites. (YES! There WILL be more than one!) Whole Macs, dipped into Guittard chocolate (no skimping, here!) results in a jawbreaker sized donkey ball! Their flavors range from milk, dark, orange chocolate, and then, some are further rolled in cocoa powder, coffee, chili powder, etc. (So little time, so many choices!) They also have variations that are called chicken, turtle and boar balls, depending on what they're made with (caramel, etc.) The shops also sell Kona coffee, hot chocolate mixes and teas, to either enjoy there, or take with, to enjoy once you get home. YOU HAVE TO TRY DONKEY BALLS!! Guarantee, if you love chocolate and Mac nuts, you...
Read moreIt has taken me almost a month to write this, but I didn't feel good about not sharing my experience at Donkey Balls. That was new to me and I'm not a barista, so I didn't question the process (it wasn't good, but it wasn't spoiled, so there's that). With all the great coffee shops (Kaya's, Puna Chocolate, and So'K) in town, there's no reason...
Read moreThird time at the Kona location. They didn’t have what I purchased last time, but that’s fine (supply chain/circumstance/etc). I waited outside by the cafe tables & plugged my phone in for 5-9 minutes at outside outlet by cafe tables. The employee saw all of this, went outside for a smoke break, finished smoke break, then he went back inside. When I removed my phone charger he chose that moment to yell at me as I was walking away that I should have asked permission for the charge. There were no signs or other indicators that this charge was unacceptable (again, less than 10 minutes to ensure I would maintain contact with my ride, outside the establishment where cafe tables and chairs are placed). I used to recommend this store-...
