I would like to share my LONG overdue thoughts on Infinity Gaming! They are located in the other side of the pawn shop building. Don't get confused, you have to walk around the other side from the parking lot because like many of the items they have for sale, they are a hidden gem. When we first came to take a look at the store, we accidentally walked into the pawn shop. I can start off by saying that this is the best game store in Hickory, even topping GameStop- ESPECIALLY with prices, but MOST DEFINITELY with the customer service and the sweet folks that own/work here. I have never had a disappointing experience. My 8 year old's birthday was last November, and I promised I'd take him to get a certain video game, but forgot my card at home. The KIND owners just let him keep it as a birthday gift! Granted, it was a really inexpensive game, BUT kindness goes a long way. It doesn't matter the price, it's the thought that counts. In this economy, it's hard to make money and I absolutely hate taking anything from a locally owned store, but they insisted and it warmed my heart! That kindness they showed towards my son got me, as a life long customer, as long as they are open- I will always shop here FIRST; Before checking any other store. They definitely made a little 8 year old VERY happy that day, and his mom too!
When it comes to the items that they carry, they DO NOT disappoint. They have super old games and fairly new games FOR EVERY console, as well as consoles themselves, controllers, Funko... Really anything you need for your game room! But the best part is their (what I call) tiny console museum room! They have all kinds of vintage consoles on display in this room. It's a big dream of mine to collect 'em all one day for our game room! Now, we know just where to go to find what we need when we need it! XBOX + Playstation and their dinosaur predecessors, PC games, Gameboy, PSP, Wii, Switch, SNES/NES etc. They have it all, and they are WELL WORTH checking out before you go drop heaps of money at a retail chain. I really hope to see them stay in...
Read moreA pretty darn good retro game store. I'm shocked that two great ones are so close by to each other (This one and Red Fox). I think both complement each other nicely. Infinity has a lot more consoles in stock and more games from before the dawn of the millennium, whereas Red Fox has a lot more that are from the years of 2001 to now.
Both fill their own niche and have great prices. Red Fox might be a tad more expensive than Infinity, but both are still miles better than trying to find a decent price on eBay.
My only two minor complaints with Infinity that knock them down one star are as follows:
A lot of their stuff has pretty sizeable price stickers. It's annoying, but not the end of the world. Still, smaller labels that leave less sticky residue would be nice.
This last one is purely subjective and far from an awful thing, but this place does have a very odd smell to it. As other reviews have noted it is pretty strong and slightly off-putting. That's admittedly a petty and small complaint, but it's still something that brought the overall experience down just a little bit. My apologies to the owners for bringing up such an odd complaint, but I mean nothing by it.
Still, games at a decent price cannot be beat, and the staff are very nice, knowledgeable and friendly. They were eagerly talking to guests about games and were...
Read moreIts a very nice place, a good layout, good selection of games from very old to brand new games and consoles. Only complaint I can have is the placement of the store. If you're driving on the wrong side of the road, you have to make a u-turn because of the median in the road, and its in the back of another store, Gold King. Also, if you call their number, the Gold King always picks up first snd you have to ask for infinity gaming, and their closing time isnt guaranteed because if the Gold King decides to close early, then infinity gaming may be closed an hour or two sooner than you expect with no notice beforehand. Other than those little slightly annoying details, the shop itself is very nice and has a better selection and price than a lot of other stores...
