My husband and I recently purchased a new home and decided that we would be replacing our den and dining area furniture. So, along with a million other move-related things, I started investigating options for furniture. We are lucky to live in North Carolina where we are so close to so many furniture options. Given all of the other move expenses, I definitely wanted the best value for our dollar, so I looked into options in Hickory. I’d heard tell of (and personally know of) people coming from all over the world to get furniture in Hickory, and that, somehow, it was cheaper for them to travel there and ship it back than it would be for them to get it at home. When I moved into my last home, I got a number of items at an outlet in Hickory (outside of the Mart) that were priced well. Even still, I wasn’t convinced that I could get great pricing in the regular showrooms in Hickory, but thought that it wouldn’t hurt to try.

In my research, I ran across someone who mentioned working with Teresa, the personal shopper at the Hickory Furniture Mart. I’m not great at putting things together décor-wise, so I figured we could use the help. Not to mention help with navigating the seemingly endless number of showrooms. I reached out and was able to get an appointment set up. She was also very flexible when I had to shift the meeting a few times due to changes in closing dates.

Fresh off our move, we headed to Hickory to meet Teresa and try to furnish our two areas. Somehow we managed to spend about 7 hours there, but it really flew by – even to my husband! Teresa was INVALUABLE to the process. Working with her was the best decision we’ve made in a while. :) Every single person there knows her and greets her warmly, so there is a side benefit of feeling like you’re hanging out with a celebrity. Ha, ha! Seriously though, our trip would have been impossible, or at least not nearly as fruitful, without her help.

Based on email exchanges before the trip, Teresa knew what we were looking for and was able to expertly guide us to see our options. She helped our visit to be even more efficient by reaching out to various showrooms via text/phone to see if they had specific items on their floors that we may be interested in. So, that saved a ton of literal legwork. Most importantly, she was respectful of our budget and did not try to (or encourage anyone to) upsell us. On the contrary, she worked very hard to help us find the best deals possible. And if we didn’t like something, we just moved on – no pressure or hard feelings. Teresa was patient and helpful throughout the entire experience.

In addition to Teresa, we worked with very helpful sales staff in the different showrooms. They helped us to pull together a unified look that would flow in our open floorplan. They also provided much needed advice on what would and would not fit in our space (something else I’m not good at). We had our heart set on a couple of things that ended up not being ideal for our available space, so it was great to find that out then and not once we got ill-fitting pieces of furniture in our house.

As a note, the café was also surprisingly good. We are vegan and didn’t expect to be able to eat much on the menu, but we were pleasantly surprised. I’m usually quick to pass up veggie wraps and the like as they are sure to be bland, but our meal was actually quite tasty. Definitely helped us to refuel for the afternoon.

Price-wise, based on things I’ve seen at local stores, Crate & Barrel, and the like, I think we were able to get good, quality furniture at a good price. Definitely not “cheap”, but it was within the budget that we’d set. More importantly, we were able to customize it to make it our own, and we were able to leverage the expertise of a number of helpful people instead of trying (likely, unsuccessfully) to do it all by ourselves.

My husband and I recently decided to visit The Hickory Furniture Mart in an effort to purchase furniture for our new home. In planning our visit, we went on line and reviewed the stores and furniture lines that were carried, as well as previously posted shopper reviews. Mostly, positive reviews were posted with a only a few negative ones, that on close scrutiny didn't seem to be concerning.

We discovered that the Mart had a great opportunity for new shoppers, as well as returning visitors, that included providing a professional personal assistant to escort guests through their shopping experience. It sounded like this would be an excellent way for us to become familiar with the merchandise at the Mart as well as having a professional provide insight about specific furniture lines that best suited our interests.

We found that this was even more helpful than we had expected! From the first contact with Tracey Trimble, who arranged for our Personal Assistant, Teresa Thompson, to meet us upon our arrival, to the final selection of furniture on our last day, we had exceptional service and attention! Ms. Trimble gave us guidance regarding the Shop and Stay component that provided reduced rates at nearby hotels for Mart shoppers, which made our experience even more manageable. We chose to stay at the Holiday Inn Hotel that was in the same parking lot as the Mart, and had only a short walk across the shared parking area to get into the building. Ms. Trimble and Ms. Thompson even assisted us along the way as we traveled with suggestions for restaurants and guidance when our GPS failed.

Our days were long but rewarding. Our experience with the different vendors was pleasant and very helpful. Ms. Thompson quickly understood the look, style, and quality we were interested in and guided us in that direction. She helped us find unique and interesting pieces all under one roof, with out the long and tedious shopping that is usually necessary for a job as large as ours. We came away with all the furniture needed to furnish our new home being ordered or selected from the floor without the exhausting efforts from past ventures.

We highly encourage others to visit the Hickory Furniture Mart for small or large furniture needs. The prices were much less than typical retail costs and the quality was superb. But most of all the hospitality and commitment of Ms. Trimble and Ms. Thomspon was unparalleled!

I've doing business with Hickory Furniture for several years now. And specifically working with Susan LeFevers, a talented, responsive and most congenial sales/designer. I've purchased mostly high end furniture from such companies such as Lane Venture, Hancock & Moore, Hickory Chair etc. Most everything we purchased were custom designed. We are very detailed minded customers and demand the very best in responsiveness and quality. And btw, did I mention the prices we paid? We of course check prices as most others do. Not only was Susan and Hickory prices great, but they were in every case significantly lower in every case. When we had an issue with custom made leather chairs; no problem. Susan arranged a pick up and replacements were made. When we changed our mind about ordering something, we were issued a full refund on our cc before the items were put into production. And with a smile. Susan makes the tedious task of choosing fabrics and leathers into a very pleasant and fun experience. Responsiveness to our questions, comments and quote requests are always very speedy. When there is a question about any product, or we need something special to be done; Susan works her contacts at the cognizant manufacturers and works her magic to make us happy. The only problem I have experienced is that since Susan and Hickory are so good, we can't seem to stop ordering! That's the joy we have when doing business with Susan LeFevers. She is the greatest! And of course a lot is not possible without the support and backup of her managers and the customer support Dept. Susan LeFevers and Hickory Park Furniture.
