Northern Tool + Equipment — Local services in Hickory

One star is a gift for this unfortunate excuse of an organization. I have never experienced such poor customer service. Scrolling through the reviews, I read an account of northern tool flat out lying to customers, and I’ve had the misfortune of experiencing the same problem.

We purchased a generator August 29th with the promise that it would arrive within 7-10 business days, and that they would be surprised if it would take 7 days. Naturally, we planned our food inventory and scheduling accordingly, and ended up having to waste approximately 500 dollars in inventory. WE STILL don’t have our generator, and have virtually zero information on its whereabouts or when it will arrive. To add to the frustration, Northern Tool claimed they couldn’t track a 2500 dollar machine (which I find extremely hard to believe), but then when we had to call the next day because they didn’t provide the customer service call they “promised” us; we found out through a different employee that our machine had been tracked to DC.

And then again, we were told they would contact us the following day with more information, and received no call. It’s been 3 weeks and we are no closer to receiving our generator than when we ordered it. Keep in mind, they had no problem hitting our credit card immediately after purchase.

My guess is they decided to sell our generator to another bidder, and are scrambling to figure out how to fulfill our order.

I’m extremely disappointed in my experience here, and will never shop here again because I expected my contract...

Cons:I purchase here for a lot of things. I have purchased clothing and found that quite a few of their items are not preshrunk, like is this still a thing? I washed them 3 washings and my tops became midriff tops. I am guy and this is not an option. I wanted to purchase an item, the cashier rang it up the wrong price, I told her it was a lower price. We both walk back to the display and she tore off the sign and said oh that was on sale last week. If I'm not wrong he she should have given me the markdown price but I didn't want to cause a stink about it so I just paid it. I don't think it is good business practices to cheat your customers and not follow the laws and rules of sales. They don't carry everything you need of course but they do carry quite a bit. You can find a lot of things through their catalog and order online. Some of the items are more expensive than some places so it's best to do your shopping online to see who has the best deals. I do like their sales and their coupons because it gives me a break when I have to...

UPDATE: Bought a 'Marine Swivel Bolt On swivel jack for $24.99 that is way better than the one I bought through Tractor Supply! There was an issue with a the SKU number on an item in my cart not matching the sku in the sale ad and they adjusted it in my favor. Over several occasions, purchases and returns they have yet to fail me. 4/28/24 I've shopped there less often than I might if they were closer than a 23 minute ride and a bit off my route when in Hickory for 'a reason.' However, as others have said, they do seem t have a great selection of tools and equipment. They beat Lowes and Harbor Freight and Home Depot hands down. They honor a veteran with a discount - something I only discovered after years of shipping there - even on 'sale' prices.
