Waterbean Coffee — Restaurant in Hickory

If I could choose 0 stars I would. I hate to even write this, but I was in this coffee shop today and the girl called my order out and gave me my drinks. One of them had a lid on it that would need a straw. She didn't hand me one so I proceeded to take one out of the cup that was sitting on the counter (easily within my reach). She then looked and me and said, "please don't touch those, that is a health code violation." I then said okay, well you didn't give me one and she replied, "you should have asked". Here is my problem here....First...why do you have straws sitting out that looks as if they should be self serve if it is a health code violation. Second ....why would I need to wait on you to come back so I can ASK for a straw because you forgot it in the first place. HORRIBLE service and not the way to speak to people let alone paying customers from this particular girl. Maybe the health department should know how easy it is for customers to make this violation.

Edit: this was originally a 5-star review. But today I walked in to order a to-go drink and my order was completely forgotten about. The girl taking orders was very kind and attentive to both the couple ahead of me and myself. But the other girl who was making the drinks was texting on her phone and literally disappeared to the back without ever making my order. I had to remind them that I was still there waiting for my drink to be made and ultimately it was the girl taking orders who ended up making it. This isn’t the first time my order has been forgotten by an employee who is paying more attention to their text conversation than to their customers. It’s really unfortunate because I love this coffee shop and have recommended it to many friends! But I simply don’t understand how you can have ONE drink to make, know the customer is there waiting, and instead pick up your phone and walk to the back never to...

I want to give this place another shot and try other things but the Vietnamese Iced Coffee (Cà Phê Sữa Đá) needs some work, both mine and my fiances were too watery, not strong enough, full of grounds, and it tasted like it was made with regular milk instead of sweetened condensed. I'm interested in the Green Tea Frappe, it sounds good, and I'd like to try some other coffee based drinks as well. I hope the owners can commune with their staff on how to properly make Viet Iced Coffee because it's such a rare find in this area and we'd really like to have a go to place for it.

All that said, the employees were incredibly nice and very accommodating. The environment inside is really clean and welcoming too, saw a lot of people reading/working so probably not the best place...
