I've been eating at fish camps since I moved to this area over 30 years ago. A lot of the good ones were sold from the original families and just went downhill. We went here today because it's hard to find a good fish camp. Honestly, I'm not sure I'll be back. The food was good and the portions were adequate but I just wasn't impressed with the place. I wanted salt/pepper oysters and was told they don't do that. I've never been to a fish camp that doesn't offer salt/pepper option for most of their items. My bf wanted salt/pepper green shrimp. Again, it is not available. Okay, fine. Got the sweet potato as my side. I don't like sugar/cinnamon so just wanted it loaded (butter, sour cream, chives, bacon bits, etc) like I've been able to get at every other fish camp I've ever been to. The waitress pointed out a tray with butter and a shaker with sugar/cinnamon and said, "I'll bring you some sour cream." Like what? They only offer butter and sour cream for their regular potatoes. So I get fewer options and less food with higher prices? Like, I get it, food costs and all that but dang, you can't even give me a loaded baked potato and you wanna charge me $16 for 2 fish items, only one of those can be salt/pepper (catfish filet) and charge me $2 for tea? The food was hot, and it tasted good. I just wasn't impressed. The restaurant was clean and the service was good. Idk, it just felt like, an everything is pre-made, ready to fry, type of place with no options, because that would be too difficult to address due to the volume of the food they're serving. I'd rather go to a fish camp where I have to wait a little longer to get my food cooked to order. I try to be fair in all my reviews, and I'm just not sure I'd...
Read moreExtremely rude as soon as my husband and I walked through the door with my TRAINED SERVICE DOG, an AKC STANDARD CHOCOLATE POODLE..... They didn't like it one bit, though she laid right by me the whole meal which my husband and I rushed through. My service dog laid down until we were done and never bothered a soul. She is very well trained and knows when I'm going to have a seizure before I do usually. I have NEVER in the entire time I've had her ever went through the rudeness that I experienced here and we will NEVER come back again. My husband says that he saw that they had a problem when we first came in and wondered if it were because he's black and I'm white. I don't know. I just know that we were made to feel very uncomfortable and were constantly being started at. This is the first time I didn't leave a tip. The waiter went to fill my husband's tea and slopped it all over the floor like he didn't want to even touch my husband's glass. Normally every restaurant we have gone to just adore her. Including the Pirate Restaurant in Mt. Airy and El Paso Mexican Restaurant in Morganton, and I HOP IN Shelby, let alone Bo Jangles in Morganton, Lincolnton, Shelby which she just adores, Burger King in Morganton, and Captain D's in Morganton. My husband and I are both out ragged at...
Read morewe enjoy going here to eat in the Oyster Bar area, but they were full last night so we ate in the main dining room. We ordered fried fantail shrimp and fried oysters. I got a salad in place of the coleslaw. We each ate 1 of the lukewarm hushpuppies, I took one bite of salad, and our food was out! I never thought I would complain about receiving my food too quickly, but...... I am always able to eat at least 1/2 to 3/4 of my salad before I receive my food, which is why I order a salad in the first place. There is no way that our food was freshly fried within such a short time. The shrimp and oysters were warm, not hot, and the oysters were mushy and tasteless. At least the baked potatoes were warm enough to melt the butter! I expect my food to be prepared after I order it, not sitting under a warmer. There is no way our food could have been freshly prepared that quickly. Not a...
