CHECK YOUR RECEIPT! Their checkout system doesn't deduct all coupon or the price shown on the shelf. I used a $10 coupon that LIDL sent me. It was during the required dates. I spent well over the required amount. The cashier even told me he took the coupon off. I checked my receipt at the car and it was NOT taken off. SO the solution was for me to go back to my car and get everything and have it rescanned. REALLY? Is my time not worth anything? I returned the whole cart of produce and that was the last chance I am giving LIDL. Great people. Great product. Their checkout system absolutely SUCKS. On a previous trip to their store, I did this review: BUYER BEWARE. The price on the shelf is not necessarily the price they overcharge you. This store overcharged me $6.50 yesterday on items priced differently than the shelf price. I shouldn't have to check if I was charged the right amount. That is expected! I bought 2 loaves of bread, buy one get one free. On my way to the car I discover you charged me for both. So I went back and looked at the sign. In the fine print the sale ended yesterday. Maybe print the date a little larger if you're not going to honor your signs??? Maybe take down the sign??? So I wait in line again. That cashier can't issue a refund. She directs me to another line with the manager. 6 people with carts in line. No, I'm not waiting through a third long line. Ridiculous!!! By the way you also charged me an extra dollar per bag on the pink lady apples (3 bags). Maybe consider checking the prices on what you are putting out? So how much did I save. NOTHING. I won't be a customer anymore. There are many other places in Richmond to spend my $100-...
Read moreThis place is just not for me, no matter how you self-service slice it. While the prices on some items may be curiously lower than its competitors, I've never felt it was worth going through the agony of the actual shopping experience they provide.
I've always viewed this Lidl as more of a social experiment than an actual grocery store. My grievances are almost purely with the checkout system.
Customers are required to not only provide their own bags, but then bag their own groceries. That's a Ding an sich, but I actually can see where that COULD speed things up.
But, I guess at that point...why even have cashiers? We're doing everything but stocking the shelves at this point, so why not open ALL the checkout lines and let us check ourselves out?
Because that's the biggest problem with this place. Why is there always only one checkout line open? Why randomly open another line only to close it after three minutes? Then send the rest of that now closed line BACK to the (now longer) one line?
What is the strategy in this? Who exactly does this benefit, and how? The whole experience feels more like Squid Game than service. I guess ultimately this shopping style just...
Read moreDon't be put off by the rather Spartan warehouse styled appearance of this store. It offers a unique assortment of affordable international foods I haven't seen anywhere else. Much of the standard offerings are Lidl's house brand with a few name brands here & there which is a challenge for a brand-loyal shopper like me. But, sprinkled in are Italian non-gmo die-cut pastas, meats, gelato & cookies; Spanish oils, meats & cheeses; German pastry, chocolate, jams & ice cream; French croissants (stock up if they come back); a wine & beer selection filled with domestic & international choices. Every shelf holds a little treasure waiting to be found. I still think it's strange for a grocery-store-proper to sell tools, clothes, toys, housewares but I'm adjusting to it. I don't care for their sandwich bread. The bakery baguette rivals that of Panera. The only drawback is that special offerings are not always available as Lidl only buys items at a price-point that passes on a good deal to the customer. So when you see something you like, buy it while you can. Give it a try.... and remember to bring...
