I was initially a little skeptical regarding this approach to buying a mattress, but I'm happy to say my skepticism wasn't warranted! I gave Jim a call and left a voicemail outside of normal hours, which he then returned and we were able to get an appointment in the store for the same day (a Saturday). Jim's approach was straightforward- a combination of asking and answering questions to see what sort of a mattress we might be interested in, and simply letting us be to walk around and see what felt just right. Jim was anything but pushy- sharing anecdotes about mattress purchases he's regretted and simply giving us the space to take whatever time we needed without interruption. At the end of the appointment we asked for a quote and were able to leave without a trace of sales pressure, and were encouraged to shop around to find something that worked for us (even if it wasn't his product). I had an amazingly positive experience with Jim the mattress guy. I was trying to get mattresses for a new purchase of a vacation home in Michigan, from my CA current home, and found Jim. We spoke on the phone and I told him what I was thinking about. I had not seen the home before I purchased it, but friends gave me a good idea of what I might need.

When I arrived in Michigan in September, Jim and I spoke again. I went to see him in Traverse city the day after I arrived in harbor Springs. Jim and I talked about all of the options.

I purchased 4 twin mattresses, two queens and one king. He got me a great deal.

Keep this in mind any of you who may be reading this: a king mattress usually costs 1800 dollars or more these days. I got all 7 mattresses for just under 3 grand...

Beware: Anyone who goes there, please do your homework before committing to buy!! I supposedly got the top of the line mattress that he sells, and was told was $3,200 but he’d bring it to $2,800. I was desperate for a good mattress and knew what I wanted. When I saw on the listing for it that it was a Spring Air, I was excited from past experience with Spring Air. When I told some friends how much I paid, we started digging and found that Sring Air doesn’t have any mattresses that is that much I called Fred. He assured me that I was not overcharged but sent info on what I bought was on sale somewhere else for $1,600. Where was the 50 to 80% more that you pay somewhere else?
