Deplorable ownership and management. I sent my mother $200 to go buy my nephew a new scooter. They specifically asked for a black colored micro brand scooter. The sales associate sold my mother a red one instead without ever letting her know that they did not have the black in stock. My mother walked maybe 5 feet out of the store and opened the box and saw it was red and went back into the store to return it and the store clerk was not only not helpful, but rude as well. I cannot believe that the store would 1) falsely sell a scooter in the wrong color that was requested and then 2) not accept the immediate return once she realized it was the wrong color. AND to top it all off the store clerk threw the parts back into the box haphazardly when she refused to accept the return and now the parts are missing and the scooter is non-functional.
I've been in contact with the micro brand scooter company themselves and they have been kind and will hopefully help resolve the issue. But I would just avoid this store all-together.
The items are typically 30%-50% higher than online or other stores anyways.
I am just disappointed that I was trying to buy my nephew the black scooter he has been raving about for a week and the entire experience was ruined by poor management.
Now I have to go through the process of emailing the company to get new parts due to the clerk's careless behavior. I'm seething with anger.
You have lost a good customer who spends probably $1K-$2K a year on childrens toys for her 7 nieces...

I love supporting local stores unfortunately I will never return to Homewood Toy & Hobby after an incredibly disappointing experience I had today. I purchased a toy for my child that broke immediately after we turned it on (drone) and when I returned to exchange it just two weeks past the exchange window, I was met with a firm refusal.
While I understand that policies are in place for a reason, it’s disheartening to see a local business prioritize rules over community relationships. It feels like a missed opportunity for them to foster goodwill and loyalty among their customers.
I truly believe that supporting local businesses is important, but I also think they should be willing to work with their community members, especially when it comes to situations that could easily be resolved with a little flexibility. I wasn’t seeking a refund, simply a toy of equal or lesser value ($38) that works. I hope they reconsider their approach in the future, as I would love to continue shopping here if they can find a way to better serve our community.
For now, I’ll be exploring other options for my toy shopping needs. Note: this is directed at the owner of the company not the kind RC repair guy or the woman who works the front end who has been nothing but kind during all the time I’ve shopped...
Read moreThis is the best toy and hobby shop I've ever been to. I've shopped here for over 30 years now. It's family owned and the people that run it are true enthusiasts that strive to keep the shelves stocked with the latest, relevant, high quality toys and games. The depth of their stock is mind boggling, it really takes several hours to see everything. I shop here for my kids, myself in the hobby department, and for every child's birthday party I'm invited to, and my gift is always a hit. I usually tell Julie the age and gender of the birthday kid, and she immediately gives me several solid choices, plus they gift wrap it with high quality materials for free! My kids love everything they get from here, whether it's a game, an educational science toy, or one of whatever the latest crazy blind bag/etc. craze is going on. If you shop here, you're guaranteed to find one of the hottest toys for a fair price, and be helped my some of the nicest people you'll find in the toy...
