I was at Pier 11 (Aloha Tower) on October 30, 2024 to assist an 84 year old, handicapped friend who was boarding the Holland American (HAL) ship Westerdam. The cruise originated in Seattle but my friend had permission to embark in Honolulu. My friend, who needs a wheelchair, had three large suitcases because she was moving to Australia. HAL assured my friend in writing that there would assistance getting her luggage on the ship. Two other friends were with us to help her.
Upon arrival at the pier, I contacted several of the workers at the port to determine the best way to get her and her luggage on the ship without interfering with the many passengers returning to the ship after sightseeing. One worker requested the wheelchair, which arrived with a HAL employee to push it. We were then directed to the area where the passengers were arriving. Here we encountered a female security guard who was very rude and gave conflicting information. At first, she told us to bring the luggage to the next room, where they were screening passengers and belongings prior to boarding. As soon as we did this, she started screaming we were not allowed to be in that room. She went as far as telling my handicapped friend in the wheelchair that she had to get her luggage on the ship herself! Fortunately, the HAL employee called someone else on the crew and he arrived to get the luggage onboard.
It was a terrible start to my friend’s new life in Australia because of the rude security guard. I am sorry I didn’t get her name or badge number. She should be reported so that others with reason to be at Pier 11 don’t receive...

However, just outside the terminal, things were a bit confusing, as some street access was closed to vehicles, making it a little tricky to find a ride. Despite that minor inconvenience, the overall experience was great, and the terminal was well-organized. Would definitely sail...

Finally entered an area more conducive to travellers passing through a cruise terminal. Upon returning to the ship, the tide rose and made it a climb from the deck into the ship. There was some kind of confusion passing through security as the lines were hung up for about 15”. Interesting scenes of Honolulu from the ship at the pier including the...
