Ok so we were there for 12 days and here’s exactly what you need to know: 1- the rooms are tiny, you can hear your neighbors conversations, the bathroom wall is glass and semi see through and there is no ventilation in there so if you go #2 your room will smell like the bathroom. But had clean room vinyl flooring. 2- cleaning lady is wonderful, make sure she’s coming every other day we went about 4 days without a clean or fresh towels 3- front desk staff is processional and kind 4- the speak easy is downstairs and quite awkward and claustrophobic. Be sure not to just walk in as they will hunt you down and get out out of there in a very strange manner 4- the dotted line, great food, very awkward staff. I’d say they are trying to be professional but we kept running into uncomfortable moments where they didn’t know how to tell us something. Ex: like they were closed or that I wanted coffee everyday when I woke up. The host was taken back by this daily- even though the coffee was right there for the buffet? flabbergasted I just wanted a coffee to go. Then he tells me there’s a coffee shop next door. No I don’t want to walk downtown with bumper to bumper traffic in my pJs for coffee. Ok so after 5 days of being in this hotel there is no room service, it’s weird to go downstairs for coffee, and the coffee shop next door (the hotel apparently owns) has gross coffee and it’s like $6 for a large hot. But the thing is NO one told us this. 5- more on the dotted line restaurant the food was spectacular. Like one of the best restaurants on the island. Again restaurant staff always a bit social awkward to talk to 6- valet, nice to have but annoying if you’re in and out all day and you have to tip them for getting your car so be sure to have a lot of cash for this. If not once again, awkward. 7- gym was very clean and nice 8- it’s in china town, very easy to get to but a drive if you want to go to the beach and to just walk around, meh I wouldn’t feel safe as a female. There are a lot of homeless one street over laying around. They don’t bother you but not the best scenery. 9- so I don’t know overall I’d say it was more of a business hotel, not for long stays or families. I think the staff was trained to be too professional and by default it comes off as uncomfortable and not “user friendly” if that makes sense.
** If I could make a few recommendations for the hotel this is what I’d say would make it a better experience: tell your guests what to expect, room service, coffee, breakfast. Have the info in the rooms. Perhaps have a complimentary station outside the elevators with coffee, muffins, fruit for people in a hurry, or those who just want a damn cup of coffee in the am lol. Put the restaurant hours etc in the rooms, or post in elevators. Let the guest know about local walk-able things to do and restaurants to scope out. Perhaps a few local delivery places. Thank god for tic tok or I would have starved. Let your staff loosen on the professionalism a bit to be a little more down to earth. These things would have made this place that much sweeter. Thanks for...
Read moreI had the great pleasure of staying at the AC Hotel Honolulu three times, each for long stays. Having never been to Hawaii before, I did not know what to expect, but the hotel exceeded my expectations—as did downtown Honolulu. I wished to avoid the touristy Waikiki area but I also wanted to stay at a first-rate hotel. The AC Hotel Honolulu offers that experience. A hotel is often judged on the basis of its staff. The staff—from the valets to housekeeping to the front desk—are highly professional and unfailingly polite. There is valet service 24/7, and even though I did not have a car, I enjoyed getting to know the valets because they stand at the entrance of the hotel on Bishop Street, Honolulu’s main street, where I could see them each day as I left in the morning and returned in the late afternoon. The rooms are very well designed, compact but with desks, storage, and closet space. As a long stay guest who did go the grocery store, I appreciated having a small refrigerator for my food stash. I also was gratified to have a safe. On other trips, it has been exceedingly awkward to have to take my valuables with me each day. The hotel thoughtfully provides two waters for guests parched from long-haul flights. There is a coffee-and-tea service supplied in the room; in addition guests can partake of a continental breakfast at no extra charge. If that is not enough the hotel complex includes a charming espresso shop that includes gifts for guests who have no time for shopping. As one of the very few hotels in downtown Honolulu, it was important that the AC Hotel enhance city life, and it does more than its share, with a fine dining restaurant and a night club open to the public. The valets just outside the front door also add to city life because they are a cheerful presence and are there to greet guests, whether hotel or community patrons. For me, this hotel has an obvious urban mission. Its central location makes it easy to walk to one of the many city attractions, including the historic palaces and Chinatown. Even the beautiful waterfront is not far away. For business travelers, the AC is the obvious choice. I met one in the elevator who travels extensively and seemed pleased to have a hotel that caters to his needs. While in some minds, Honolulu is synonymous with Waikiki, there is much more to this metropolitan area than sea and sand. I preferred to partake of the life of the resident Hawaiians rather than be among fellow tourists. The AC Hotel Honolulu gave me...
Read moreI received a warm and courteous welcome from the front desk staff but was assigned to a room with a TV that did not work. The hotel apparently had a power surge the week before and the network was affected. I was staying for 12 days and this was not shared with me at check in. Once I reported this, I was moved to another room in the same floor. Unfortunately the hot water stopped working in the room the following night. I reported this and they sent someone up to "show me" how to work the spigot. After it was confirmed that the water was running cold, it took 5 days for it to get "fixed" and only because I reported it again. The houseman that initially checked my water told me that I was not the only one who had reported cold water that evening. There was no follow up from the staff. It took this long because I remained checked in but had to depart for an emergency for a few days. When I returned, and reported it again I was told that I could move rooms, the staff was not tracking that I had already moved once. When I returned from work I was told it was "fixed." The shower was still lukewarm. I informed the staff the same day and never heard back. It was never completely fixed and there was no follow up after I reported it to three different staff members. I am not a complainer and it takes a lot for me to lose my temper, but if the dial is turned all the way to hot, no cold water is mixed in, and the water is still lukewarm, then there is an issue. I got tired of asking once my check out day approached. I share this long story only to underline that though the staff was very nice and the valet was great, there was no sense of urgency to ensure that my lengthy stay was comfortable after my card was charged and an extremely nonchalant attitude about moving me multiple times. The hotel is new and clean, but do pay attention to small details like the absence of a microwave in the room so that you are more inclined to dine in their restaurant. I failed to do so. Bless you for reading this and...
