I went for a two-strand twist because I had a very busy two-three work week coming up, and wouldnât have the time to pick out my hair. This was my first time going to a salon, and my first time getting anything done to my hair, so I had no idea what idea what to expect.
Pros:
The stylist answered every question that I had.
I showed up 10 minutes late due to a family situation, and the stylist still finished about 30 mins earlier than expected.
I did get follow-up call about two-weeks after my appointment, and, after a brief run through of the cons below, they did offer a free deep conditioning as compensation.
Cons:
I came in expecting my twists to look as well-done as the male two-strand examples on their Instagram page, and that was not the case.
When I said I needed a detangle, the stylist disagreed, and, opposite of what other reviewers mentioned, proceeded to yank through the knots in my hair. There was a point where it felt like she ripped some of my hair out of my head. I was still charged for the detangle.
The parting was not clean at all. In the stylistâs defense, she didnât want to make them look too clean so that they didnât come across as âgirly.â But they ended looking unkempt and uneven. It was impossible for me to tell which parts lead into their twist.
The twists themselves were uneven in sizing. I wanted them to be medium-sized, but I trusted the stylistâs recommendation of doing a mix of small to medium sizes. She said it was give the style an even appearance all over, but there wasnât a pattern at all. Some small twists were in between medium ones, and there was even one twist in the back that was a three-strand twist. Also, around the three-strand twist area, is a small patch what feels like missing hair.
Ultimately, I ended up taking out the twists the next morning, and that style ended up working for me.
I normally wouldnât leave this review, especially because Iâm big on supporting black woman-owned business and the natural hair women movement. And I do want to mention that the person that did my hair was not a person that was mentioned by name in any of the reviews, and I'm sure that's why my experience was different. Reading through some of the other clientsâ experiences, it does seem like the owner genuinely cares about their customers and their service, so I genuinely hope this review helps. But, at the end of the day, if a woman I knew were in my position, I wouldâve told them to leave this review...
Read moreI was really looking forward to getting my hair done here based off of the other reviews. Unfortunately, the service I received was terrible from start to finish. I had scheduled my appointment about a week ago for 11AM and even received confirmation of the appointment from the company. The morning of the appointment, someone from the staff calls and asks where I am at 10:15. I informed them that my appointment was confirmed for 11, to which she eventually responds that she was looking at the wrong scheduling app and the time was correct. Apparently the staff here donât communicate well because when I got there, the young lady doing my hair asked me what happened with my appointment. She told me she had another client coming in at 12 and that she would not be able to do the style that I initially requested due to the time constraint. In no way does it make sense to not provide the service to a client when the company made the mistake in the first place. As though that werenât enough, the stylist was not at all gentile with my hair. She raked through it with a tiny comb and then complained that it kept tangling back up. When you trust a professional to do your hair, you expect that they know what theyâre doing and I didnât feel that this was the case with this stylist. She mentioned that her âspecialtyâ was weaves and extensions. If that were the case, it would have made more sense to book me with someone that specializes in caring for (not ripping out) natural hair. Last but not least, I get that hairdressers talk quite a bit.. itâs kind of their thing, but when you have to stop doing your clients hair every time you want to voice your thoughts on something, it can get pretty frustrating for the client. Just something to consider. I wonât be...
Read moreI've had a good experience at this salon; however, yesterday's appointment did not go very well. There were numerous things that disappointed me about my stylist specifically. I am not going to go into too much detail, but I will say this; it is important to wear a mask in the midst of this pandemic. I made sure to ask the day before what health precautions were in place, and was disappointed to find out that my stylist chose not to wear a mask, not only demonstrating a lack of concern for her own health, but the health of her clients.
The other stylist Ade had on a mask, and she has styled my hair before, and is very kind, and professional. I would've selected her when I booked my online appointment, but I couldn't recall her name at the time. If I ever come back, I will make sure to book my appointment with Ade. Also, Autumn was kind in addressing my issue when I told her how disappointed I was with my stylist. I'm not sure if its because my stylist was having a bad day, but kindness goes a long way. Sometimes its not what you say, its how you say it. I felt belittled as she incessantly kept displaying her frustration in me simply shifting my head while she was trimming my hair. I've gone to get my hair trimmed for years, and never has a stylist display that much attitude over something so trivial.
I wont judge the ethics of this salon solely by this one experience, as I said, I have had pleasant experiences before. If I ever return, I will make sure I never go back to Arry, there were several other things, but I will stop there. I would've given a lower rating, but Autumn solved the matter and I appreciated...
