Tony does an amazing job keeping this place going. After the unfortunate fire that destroyed the clubhouse, he’s been putting in nonstop work to make sure the course is still enjoyable and playable for everyone.
This is by far the best place in Houston to learn the game, bring your family, or hang out with friends and enjoy a stress-free, judgment-free round of golf. The green fees are unbelievably affordable — one payment gives you access to the course all day. That’s crazy!
The driving range is great for practicing your long game, and there’s always space available. Everyone who plays Melrose knows the atmosphere is friendly, down-to-earth, and welcoming. You’ll get exactly what you pay for — an honest, relaxed day of golf without the pretentious vibe you find elsewhere.
If you’re showing up dressed to the nines expecting country-club perfection for $12, you might want to check your expectations. But if you’re looking for a fun, affordable, and community-centered place to play, you’ll love it here.
You can bring your dog, your kids, your own food and drinks — even your own golf cart if you want! No shame in wanting to roll around the course, especially if you plan to stay all day.
Melrose is a little Houston gem, and Tony deserves huge credit for keeping it alive and thriving mostly on his own. Since the fire, they’ve been working hard on getting a new clubhouse up and running, and it’s coming along...
Read moreI recently relocated to North Houston and searched online for a nearby golf course that had last minute availability. Upon arriving there was no one available but a sign posted said start your round and pay later. The course is a par 3 layout on a very small property. Resultantly you only need to bring a sand wedge to play the entire course. First hole played 60 yards and I easily hit the green, however the grass on the putting surface was uncut and you been better off chipping at it. A stagnated pound welcomes you on hole 2 full of mosquitoes and venomous snakes (saw many swimming around between swatting mosquitoes. The next hole didn’t have much grass at all (pictured) by the time I finished hole 4 I was done.. I walked back to the clubhouse to see if anyone was there. They don’t take credit cards and I had to cash ap some person I didn’t know. Broke down lawn equipment littered the course and explained why it was so poorly maintained. There was a sign that said best 18 holes in Texas .. This is actually the worst course I ever played on..I would rather give up golf the rest my life than ever play here again. I don’t think I ever written a negative review but I just can’t think of anything positive to say except perhaps I might be able to help someone else not make the mistake of thinking this is anything close to enjoyable experience. Save your time and money and go...
Read moreA few Sundays ago my friends and I thought it would be a good idea to try out Melrose's pitch n' putt course. It quite possibly was the best idea we've ever had. Not because of the golf - the course was in worse shape than Nagasaki after the Fat Man dropping. I'm talking about everything EXCEPT the golf: -The colossal herd of dogs that greeted as soon as we stepped onto the property. -The next herd of dogs that greeted us upon entering the clubhouse, which looked like it belonged on Shrek's swamp. -The mountains of litter scattered around the golf course, despite there being a trash can at nearly every hole. -Putting on the "greens", which were rougher than the Pacific Ocean during a category 5 hurricane.
Do yourself a favor - grab a few buddies and a couple of six packs and check out Melrose. I'm sure the litter garden could use some soil. We will for sure...
