I was referred to the hospital from Dr.Abbassi North Cancer clinic situated on 3233 Woodward Dr. Huntsville TX 77340 at exactly 4 30 pm on the 3rd of January 2023. It was about five minutes drive from the cancer clinic. I arrived at the desk at about 4 40 pm and was promptly attended to by the lady in the third office as soon as I arrived at the hospital. A very efficient lady cautious and nice indeed. I was sent in there for blood infusion. She then booked my appointment for the following day with Mrs Brandy but asked me to call Mrs Brandy ( R. N ) who would handle my case the following day. I was going to call by 8:00 am on the 4th of January. Surprisingly by 7 30 am on the 4th of January my cell phone rang, the call was from Mrs Brandy, a very polite, respectful and amiable young R. N . On picking her call she introduced herself to me after exchanging pleasantries. She asked when I would like to come in for the procedure and I told her as soon as possible. Then she suggested three options and requested me to choose one if the three and both of us agreed for 8:30am . I promised to be there on time . I got to the hospital by 8 20am and went straight to the desk. The lady at the desk was also very polite, welcoming and very respectful. She made me very comfortable until all my paperwork were ready. She then called Mrs Brandy to inform her of my presence at the front lobby who instructed her to wheel me to her station where my blood infusion will be performed I got to Mrs Brandy's station at around 8 50 am where she welcome me very warmly and made me comfortable and feel at home. I beg to say that Mrs Brandy is full of experience, knows her job and made me feel at home from the beginning of the procedure at around 9 00 am until the procedure was completed at exactly 4 30 pm. I was given the details of the procedure and all that was going to be involved. I was laid comfortably on a lazy chair with very warm blankets, watching TV and chatting together on her personal experience with two Nigerian classmates of hers she attended college together with Austin and how she was inducted as a honorary member of the African Students Association in her college. I never felt bored for a minute all through the procedure. I was scheduled for three pints of blood infusion thinking that if we couldn't finish all the three same day then she will administer the third one today. Fortunately the whole procedure was concluded at about 4 20 pm. She then put me on the wheel chair and got me back to my car. WORST Emergency Room EXPERIENCE! If you have no choice but to come to this ER bewared: Nurses have bad attitudes. You will have more questions than answers. Keep an eye on your care because they mix up charts!!!

I was very disappointed with my visit on 4/30/2023. I felt like I was bothering the nurses that were helping me. I understand they were "short staffed” but I was willing to wait and be patient while they helped other people. I have very little confidence in their treatment and the quality of care they provided. Even the basic necessities like a bedpan or providing a blood pressure arm band that fit resulted in them being irritated. They had no pride in their work and even the smallest thing like taking blood was a nuisance to them. Also, the 3 nurses that were providing treatment were not on the same page and kept asking me what tests were already completed.

The patient next to me was also there for kidney stones and the nurse kept mixing up our charts. I requested to speak to a doctor and the nurse refused however the patient next to us was allowed to speak to a doctor. When I questioned the nurse as to why I couldn't speak to a doctor she got defensive and irritated. I have never been to an ER without ever speaking to a doctor. I was completely shocked. I left this ER with more questions than answers. Some of my questions weren't even answered! I felt as though they were copying and pasting the diagnosis from the patient in the bed next to me to speed up my visit and lessen their workload. The information package they provided conflicted with what they told me to do. For example the literature stated I needed to collect my kidney stone for further examination and the nurse said I didn't need to. I was so unsettled by my visit I requested to have a copy of my CT scan because I wanted to make sure I had the right diagnosis.

These nurses had NO bedside manner and if they didn't want to help or deal with people they should have never become nurses. The next time I have a life threatening illness this will be the LAST place I come even though it is the closest place to me. I rather drive further away than come to a place where I am...

I have unfortunately been in Huntsville Memorial Hospital several times over the years. Twice for MRSA, the second time mixed with a rare fungal infection from working in Lake Livingston in August, once for a heart related surgery, once for a loop recorder implant, and again for methicillin resistant strain of klebsiella pneumoniae back in 2018.

Final visit was December 2022 when I suddenly woke at 1am coughing and by the time I reached Huntsville at 3am I had 106.2F temperature and was in and out of consciousness... throat was so incredibly raw that I couldn't talk and was in excruciating pain.

Everyone thought I had strep, and at almost 70 with that temperature, that isn't a situation to mess around with. But within about two hours they ran through many different tests and it ended up being a strain of Covid that had completely different symptoms than usual.

Once they had a diagnosis they immediately went to work...

Needless to say that could have been my last visit... but within about 9 hours they had me down to about 100F and I could tell I was coming back towards normal. Sure it was a tough and very painful for a while, but they did what professionals do. Saved my life.

I knew that had I been out somewhere without access to a hospital with highly professional and competent staff, the whole affair might have ended quite differently. But just like every other time I ended up there since 2003, they pulled me through.

I have in all that time spent quite a few nights in that hospital, and almost every single nurse on staff was nothing short of incredible. How special is that in the world today! That I can say that alone should make you feel safe.

Nobody wants to end up in a hospital of course.... but~!

I feel like we are extremely lucky to have this hospital in our community. The emergency staff are as good as anywhere in the state, and that isn't something I say lightly. Texas has some of the best hospital staffs, doctors and surgeons in the world.
