Thursday, January 16, 2025. I want to get some stainless steel hardware from Dixie aluminum in the Florida Keys. I was installing new ore lock.. I needed an inch and a half bolt flat head /1/4 inch with a nylon lock nut. As I got back home the bolts were not an inch and a half. They were inch and a quarter in the wrong compartment. Came back to the store and exchanged for a 2 inch 1/4 bolt. I installed three of the bolts no problem threading on the nylon locking nut. When I came to the fourth, the nylon locking nut would freeze up a half inch down the bolt. It took two people to get at one side of the flathead Phillips with the number three bit and another person on the other side with the 716 socket. We were able to snap the nut off so I can insert a new bolt. This happened to the bolt four times? The next day, January 17, 2025 I returned and brought the broken bolts with the freeze up nut. I also brought in a sample of one of the extra bolt I had left and took the nut and tighten it down and after half inch it froze up where you could not get it on or off. Dixie aluminum would not replace this bad Hardware. We were only talking $.37 for the bolt and $.33 for the nut for bolts for nuts they would not replace. There is something wrong with this hardware and most likely it was not Machine right. I have over 50 years experience as auto mechanic, retired firefighter /engineer, part of special Operations more skill than you can imagine. a United States Coast Guard Captain/abell, semen special. And many more endorsements through my lifetime. My experience in life and beingMechanic knowledgeable. Captain Bob does not recommend Dixie aluminum for not replacing these four nuts and bolts that would’ve cost them approximately $2.25. The picture of the three bolt in nuts is where they froze up on the bolt. We had no choice to try to snap the nut so I can get it out of the ore black hole to install a new one or I would’ve had to get a grinder to cut them off. The fourth nut and bolt is where I tried a sample to back the nut onto the bolt and it froze up. These are nylon, locking nuts and it does not do that. And the last picture is a picture of the Orlok mounted on to the aluminum boat. Noticed three of the bolts and nuts did work. Trying to put the one in the fourth hole locked up approximately a half inch to a quarter inch once starting to thread on the bolt. Adding up date: I want to Taverner Ace Hardware picked up the 2 inch flathead stainless steel bolts and nuts. Everything worked properly. As I look at Dixie aluminum‘s bolts, they are possibly from China trying to match up into an American made quarter inch nylon washing nut. The products in the shelves are not quality and most likely from China do not buy. The last two pictures are finished product of using the good quality hardware from Cavender Ace Hardware. To update this review finally I got a statement back from Dixie aluminum. As you read above I am a Mechanic, Air Sea Rescue Chicago Fire Department, a firefighter 29 years, I had one of the best roofing businesses in Chicago, I rehab 17 buildings. And I’ve never had hardware that froze up as you put the nut on the end of the bolt. They have more stories than the Chicago Sears Tower. And they could rectified it immediately by replacing the bolt. The bolt came and broke it because they froze up on the end and I had to twist them off. I took a bolt off the shelf and I said let’s try one right here and they refuse to let me do it. They have more stories and you can imagine. I do not recommend this hardware store at all. They are buying hardware from China and US and it does not sync or mesh with...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting Ace Hardware in Islamorada, and I must say it's a fantastic local DIY supply store. Whether you're a homeowner or a professional, this place has everything you need to fix, update, and maintain your home.
One of the standout features of Ace Hardware is the extensive selection they offer. From power tools to plumbing supplies, they seem to have it all. The store is well-organized, making it easy to navigate and find what you're looking for without wasting time.
The staff at Ace Hardware deserves a special mention. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to assist. Whenever I had a question or needed advice on a project, someone was readily available to help. Their expertise and willingness to go the extra mile made my shopping experience pleasant and stress-free.
Another aspect that I appreciated was the store's commitment to quality. The products I purchased were of excellent quality and performed exactly as expected. It's reassuring to know that Ace Hardware carries reliable brands that you can trust.
The only reason I'm not giving Ace Hardware a full five stars is because their prices can be a bit on the higher side compared to larger chain stores. However, considering the convenience and personalized service they offer, it's a trade-off I'm willing to make.
Overall, Ace Hardware in Islamorada is a gem of a store. With its comprehensive selection, helpful staff, and commitment to quality, it's a go-to destination for all your DIY needs. I would highly recommend paying them a visit if you're...
