My husband and I are full-time long haul truckers. We travel the country, renting out snowmobiles, UTVs, cars, and various other toys along the way. This is our second year riding in Island Park and West Yellowstone. It's likely to be our forever holiday tradition, bringing family and friends from the southeast to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
High Mountain Adventures has, without a doubt, won customers for life with us. We brought my dad and his friend to spend Christmas with us. It was his first time snowmobiling, and his friend's first time ever even seeing snow. We rented out each kind of machine they had, aside from the 650 Indy(the double-rider). All of the machines were very well maintained and up-to-date. They ran beautifully. The store was well stocked and very fairly priced, with everything from two-way radios, to full kits of weather appropriate clothes from top snowmobiling brands, to avalanche gear and sled maintenance items.
But more than that, the staff was gold-star. They were incredibly helpful, showered us with compliments, and very knowledgeable. The check-in and return process was a breeze. One of our party members crashed off trail and caused some damage, and the repairs were incredibly fairly priced. We even got caught up on Two Top the day of our return and ended up late. Staff stayed behind to recieve the snowmobiles and told us they were just glad we made it back safe. They walked my party through the machines in a very concise and easy to understand manner and made sure they had the knowledge needed to operate safely and have fun. Two employees in particular, the woman with blue hair and the tall man that reminded my husband and I of Rob Dyrdek(we're terrible with names, sorry LOL), went above and beyond and were some of the most pleasant people we've dealt with on the road!
It was incredibly important to me to spend Christmas with family, as being over-the-road means I rarely see them. My father is also getting to an age where he won't be able to adventure as much. This was my last chance to have an all-out, adventure-filled holiday with him doing the things we love to do, and High Mountain Adventures made the experience a memory I will never forget. I can not thank them enough.
To the team, you have my unending gratitude. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and we'll see...
Read moreWe rented a side beside from them on a whim. We did a 4 hour rental. We asked about trail reccomendations for a half day and they suggested a local loop. We went with their top of line 2 seater because they said it would ride smoother. We asked about finding our way back and they assured us it would be no problem, the GPS leaves a line as to where you have been, so you can follow it back.
Things started OK. The machine was way faster than we were comfortable going, so we just drove slow and looked around. If you want a fast machine, these guys have it. When we got to the first hill, the machine started loosing power. I looked down and the engine light was on, the temp light was on, and the temp read 235F. The machine was overheating, so we slowed to a crawl and called the office. They said the radiator was probably dirty and we should head back towards the office slowly and they would send someone out to meet us with a different machine.
We turned around and met the other machine and did the swap. What we didn't notice at the time was the new machine was not leaving a line on the map where we had been. We had quite a bit of trouble finding our way back. We were in a remote area with limited cell phone service and could not use our phone GPS to locate the facility and the GPS in the machine did not label where the office was, it is just a bunch of brown lines where the trails are. Overall I am disappointed with the experience. Things they could have done better:
They could ensure the GPS leaves a trace if where you have been like they said it does.
They could program a way point into the machine GPS that says "Office" or home base, etc.
They could have been less dismissive when we pointed out the replacement machine did not leave a trace of where we had been and that made it hard to get back. Instead they said, “I guess that feature was turned off“
After reading the review, the company reached out to us and provided a $100 refund which was...
Read moreI’ve been bringing customers of mine on a snowmobile trip out west, for the last several years. Island park has been a great place to stay, with High Mountain Adventures being our sled rental place of choice. Through the years of working with High Mountain Adventures, I’ve always had what I’ll call an “excellent” experience, until this year. It’s not that High Mountain’s machines weren’t in great shape or that their gear wasn’t top-notch, rather, they’ve got a guy working for them who was not very friendly (this year). Between myself and my customers, we were all treated to very poor customer service by this individual who happened to be one of the employees who checked our sleds in/out. For a company who certainly counts on this type of business, you’d think they’d go out of their way to make sure that their customers (from out of town or otherwise) would be treated with the utmost respect from their employees. Who knows. Maybe this guy was having a bad day, however, the customer should never see that or be treated poorly because of it. I’m still willing to give High Mountain Adventures another shot at my business next year. I just hope this review is taken to heart and the customer experience improves for the sake of all the other (potential) customers who consider renting snowmobiles in the Island Park / West Yellowstone area.
Update as of 2/6/2024: I've changed this review to 5-start after our experience this year. While High Mountain Adventures can't control the weather, they certainly stepped up their customer experience. Our group was greeted by helpful/friendly staff and High Mountain certainly went out of their way to make sure our experience was outstanding. Thanks to the gals behind the front desk, the mechanic staff and to Justin for making a week of poor riding conditions still an awesome experience. We'll be...
