On 1/12/2024, I drove from Columbia MO to view an apartment at 1106 Jefferson St, Jefferson City, MO 65101, that I had scheduled a week in advance to view at noon. I schedule the apartment tour with property owner Christine Zhang through the Zillow platform. I was so excited to view the apartment because I exceeded all the requirements. The requirements are a credit score of 625 or better, a monthly income of $2000 or better, and no eviction records. I have a 760+ credit score, I made more than $2000, and no eviction. Upon arrival for the apartment tour. I saw an Asian man and a white woman sitting in the office. The Asian man (about 5ft5, slim built, circular face, and between the ages 60 – 75), sits behind the desk and the white woman sits in front with an empty chair beside her. Walking toward the office I could hear the Asian man talking to the white woman with a calm/soft voice. I could hardly hear what they were saying. I entered the office and said good morning, stated my name and proceeded by saying I was here to view the apartment. The Asian man replied yelling. “who are you? How do I know it's you? Can I have your ID?” I checked my pocket for my ID but it was not there. So, I said excuse me I am going to my car to get it, but before I go can I use your restroom? The Asian man said, “No, I don’t have any restroom for you to use”. However, I ran to my car grabbed my wallet that had my driver's license in it, and ran back into the building. I handed the Asian man my driver's license, he looked at it and said, “Are you an American Citizen?” I said no I am an International student. He responded, “How do I know you are a student?" I said I could pull up my I20 and my graduate assistantship letter and show you, give me a minute. I was standing the entire time while he and the white woman were sitting, even though there was an empty chair he never said you can have a seat. So, I asked him can I have a seat? The Asian man did not reply, but the white woman said, “Yes you can have a seat” so I sat down. I pulled up my graduate assistantship letter on my phone and showed it to him to prove that I was a student. I told him that he should also have the letter that I showed him because I had already submitted this information. He follows up by asking if I have rented elsewhere before. I said yes, I have rented from my coach and I have rented from an apartment complex before. Before I finished the sentence he cut me off by talking over me, “I don’t want to hear anything about your coach!” with a very firm and strong voice. I replied with a soft voice that my coach has a housing business. Before I finished my sentence he cut me off by talking over me. He repeats, “I don’t want to hear anything about your coach” with a straight face and a yelling voice. He continues by saying, “Give me the apartment complex you have rented from before, and not your coach number”. I did give him the apartment complex number. I also tried to call the apartment complex myself because I know that I have nothing on my record to be ashamed of. After I gave him the number he said, you can go, I will get back to you when I verify the information. I walked out of the office then I remembered that the purpose of being there was to view the apartment. I walked back inside and said can I view the apartment? He yelled and said, “No, I will get back after I verify your information". However, I already paid to have my background check done and the application fee. They have all or most of the information they need. But refused to show me the apartment. The entire time I was in his office I felt judged, dismissed, and unheard. He made me feel less than a human. I had to defend myself all the time. On the other hand, he talked with the white tenant with a softer tone and he looked at her when talking. I feel I was discriminated against...
Read moreI think they are definitely a scam... I visited them a few days ago, and I decided to go for it and got ready to pay the security deposit. The landlord Michael Zhang suggested using paypal to pay for that. So I paid it and chose "Good and Service", so the paypal charged him about $6 processing fee. He was unhappy about it. So he decided to give me refund on PayPal. When the refund was pending, I said I can't pay you again today, I would come next week to pay you and sign. So I didn't pay anything, didn't sign any contract. I just told him I don't want to take the apartment right now, and he said he would collect $575 +$6 from me, if he didn't receive these money, he would file it to the court and sue me... This is definitely a scam and threatening. if you have no choice beside this apartment, please do take extra caution when...
Read moreThis is my 2nd negative review for this company. My brother was asked to renew his lease w/ a increase of rent and the deposit. I'm fine with the fact of there being an increase for both. However, Christy (Property Manager) was careless in her records/documentation. She wrote in some additives on the lease and he signed. Later, she emails telling me he needs to pay a larger amount for his deposit. She also didn't mention anything about the deposit/deposit change when first reaching out. She simply just informed about a rent increase. VERY unprofessional, rude and disorganized. Then she threatens in another email to terminate the new lease if add'l monies wasn't paid for the deposit. After my last reply, then she sends an email telling me she would send me the original lease by email. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! Definitely...
