I've only shopped at this place a few times and it's always a blast, they almost always have what I'm looking for. Going into this store perfectly recreates that nostalgic feeling of going to the store and buying whatever game you want. As a person who still buys games physically (even if I'm in my early 20s), I still walk into this store reminded of going to Blockbuster looking for used Gamecube games.
I remember when I first walked in this store back in 2018, I was on this weird 'mission' to buy every N64 game from my childhood, since I sold all of them a long time again to get a Wii. My mom first told me about this store thinking it may have the missing games for my collection. And I can safely say, for a first impression, it was much more genuine than the other retro game store I went to. It may be a small building, but it is packed with games.
The second time I went, I wanted to get some more N64 and some Gamecube games when the owner sold me an original Xbox with a price as low as $40! I wasn't really looking to buy it, but I'll tell you what, a price that low for a console that old was too good to pass up. That's when you know, the people who work here really do care about their customers. Even if you're low on budget, there's a chance you can get what you want at an absurdly cheap price.
I went again in early 2019 and my fourth and most recent visit was in February of this year, and again, both of these visits were a pleasant experience. I always buy stuff here with a fairly large budget because you'll never know what they'll have in stock, and that's the fun part, the surprise factor. You might run into something you never thought to see at a store like this. My favorite example of this was Capcom vs SNK 2, a game I wanted to try so badly, but thought was impossible to get my hands on.
I highly recommend visiting this store, and I want to thank the owner for giving me such a great time every time I visit, if it weren't for him, I wouldn't be writing this review, and I usually don't write reviews for anything unless I really enjoyed it.
Since this has left such a good impression on me, I'm giving Rare N Classic Videogames a 5 star rating because they deserve it. Once again, please go to this store, show them your love and support because who knows, they might have something for your...
Read moreBefore I lose anyone, let me preface this review by saying if you intend to do business at this location, absolutely make sure you research everything you intend to buy, trade, or sell here. There is honestly a very good selection of games with some pretty great finds to be had at this store, unfortunately if you're there for any reason other than to browse its only downhill from there. The staff has always been a bad experience. Everyone I have dealt with is either rude, condescending, uninformed, or the equivalent of talking to a sound board or ChatGPT, but you get what you pay for at $8/hr I suppose . Everything in the glass case is generally overpriced by around $10 to $15, even more when it comes to consoles or high dollar items which would explain how they can afford to have "sales" so often. The few times I attempted to sell some items here the entire transaction was me waiting for the chronically uninterested worker to have a little back and forth with the owner over text. No research, no negotiation, just a couple of texts. After being offered roughly 20% of the price of what I brought in, I asked out of curiosity how much I could get with one of my items taken out of the lot only to be told that that was the only game the owner was actually interested in. If this was the only one they wanted to buy why make an offer on the whole lot other than to screw me over and get free product? It's truly a sad day when small businesses start to adopt the same shifty tactics as bigger corporations.
tl;dr terrible staff, product overpriced and underpaid for, and the owner is an absolute villain, but hey at least there's some pretty neat stuff there! Proceed with caution and I recommend doing...
Read moreI recently had an amazing experience at Rare N Classic Video Games when I purchased an original NES console. From the moment I stepped inside, I was welcomed by AC, the owner, whos knowledge about retro gaming really stood out. He took the time to answer all my questions and made sure I felt good about my purchase. I was also blown away with the variety of items they have. I can’t say enough about the customer service and expertise at Rare N Classic. As someone who invests a lot of time and money collecting all things retro gaming this place has will be my go-to spot from now on. If you’re into retro gaming too, you’ve got to check them out! You won’t be...
