Spice World International Market — Local services in Johnson City

EDIT: I've now shopped at Spice World multiple time, and still HIGHLY recommend this store! The employees are wonderful, the selection is great (and fun!), and it's the best place I've found for fresh ginger root, as well as imported teas and cookies. It's also amazing for basics like cooking oils, rice and beans.

First visit -- won't be my last! Walked every aisle, two employees asked if I needed help finding anything, saw a great variety of packaged and fresh items, came home with oils, jarred sauces, three varieties of Chinese mustard, rice and pasta, even two pounds of gorgeous organic ginger. Also some really nice essential and body oils. Took a chicken samosa and batata vada from the counter for lunch; too spicy for me, but obviously well cooked! (evidently I've lost the adventurous palate I had earlier in life lol) I'll happily shop here again, and next time will bring a cooler for the amazing selection of yogurts. Now to find a...

I'm sorry to leave this review but they are ruining the store. This used to be one of my favorite stores in town. The selection is amazing but their prices have gone so high in the past year or so, makes it not really worth stopping in there anymore. It seems like some one else owns it now. On average you will pay about $1 more for everything in a jar than in another major store that carries the item. Sometimes more than that. They need to go out and see what others are selling stuff for. For this reason you have to keep an eye on sell by dates too. I've been shopping there for about 8 years, used to seem more friendly but I feel like I'm being ripped off now. I'll still go on occasion but now I buy about 1/5 of what I used to there. Absolutely the best international grocery store experience I have ever had in my life ! The staff were all super friendly and helpful. We found all of the Indian spices we needed to start making some classic dishes.

In addition to Indian grocery supplies , they also had a great selection of Thai ingredients which is my other favorite cuisine to make and learn. They even offered to order me a deeper , stone mortar and pestle made to work with Thai ingredients and curry paste.

They also have a wonderful selection of fresh imported ingredients and frozen staples alike. On the way out we grabbed fresh baklava and Turkish delight , it was truly incredible and it will be where I make all of my future purchases in my quest for culinary...
