Cannot say enough good things about what a WONDERFUL shop this is!

I'd been following a bit on social media and finally decided to make a little time for myself and take the Sewing 101 class. Let me tell you: I have tried to learn to sew many times, from Home Ec in middle school to a proper class at Mood in NYC, and nothing stuck.

I'm not saying I'm going to be some kind of expert tailor in the near future, but when I tell you the class Amber taught was life-changing, I mean it. She went into tremendous, robust detail about the WHY of what we were doing. It wasn't just 'do this do that', it was a literal deep-dive into the shop's philosophy and mission, the choices they make, why they carry certain patterns and fabric, what to know about the machines, their commitment to the community, and more. I am only a tad embarrassed to admit I openly cried in class. It was such a lovely evening surrounded by a bunch of other curious, eager folks, and the cherry on top is that I made two really cool coasters (the patterns for which, Amber explained, can easily be adapted to a pillowcase etc).

I'm eager to return for another class, learn to alter some of my thrift finds at one of their open sessions, and just generally support this wonderful spot. We're incredibly lucky to have this resource in Kalamazoo and I encourage anyone who is even mildly curious to check...

I took an awesome sewing class here hosted by Amber. She was super knowledgeable, super welcoming, and had excellent advice. I came in as an absolute beginner and left wanting more. My first visit was awesome. Was easy to find and very welcoming. Jessie helped me with my sewing machine questions and was very knowledgeable. Loved finding out they do private lessons.
