Salon on Barry — Local services in Kansas City

I really wasn't looking forward to this review but it had to be shared, if anything just to make management aware of this visit. I was in dire need of a quick cut and style. It was the holiday weekend. I randomly reached out to the better rated shops in my area and this was the only place willing to take me as a walk in ASAP. Yeah, I know. I hesitated because why were they not busy? 1st red flag. There were a few ladies working but only one other customer getting her nails done. This young girl asked what I wanted to have done. I let her know and pointed out areas throughout but it was poorly executed. It took alot longer than I wanted but I kept checking spots and had to show her how to check the framing lengths around my face. 2nd Red flag. Poor girl was clueless. She was very friendly and let me know she had been licensed since Aug. Yeah. I know. 3rd Red flag. She was chopping at a straight angle even after I asked if she could point the scissors to leave less straight cut. I was so frustrated. I could tell she was cutting around in a random order. There was no sense in the direction she was going. I kept looking around in hopes a mgr or anyone else would ask me "how it was going?" Guess they haven't gotten any feedback from her customers. I have had great hairstylists but since I'm fairly new to the area I haven't found my go to person. She asked if she could curl my hair and I thought sure it'll cover up my uneven cut and it did, thankfully. But I can definitely tell the unevenness when my hair is straightened. Good thing hair grows out. But yeah, mngmnt overlook what this gal is doing in her chair.

UPDATE: The owner emailed and offered to redo my cut but I did not feel compelled or obligated to go back...

For about 2 years I have been dying my own wife's hair and we were looking for a salon to do it right. So I typed in salons near me and Salon At Barry popped up so I called. Karlie answered all the questions I had and didn't make me feel stupid or dumb for asking questions. So she put my wife on the schedule for a consultation. Karlie was very welcoming and was confident she could turn my wife's hair back to what it should look like. So 9am the next day my wife came in and it took a little over 2 hours and yes it was a little pricey, but that was discussed ahead of time so it wasn't a sticker shock. My wife is absolutely thrilled at the results and I am overjoyed as to how it well it came out. Karlie was patient, kind, and warm and not only made me feel confident I called the right place, but made my wife even more comfortable. Would recommend Karlie to anyone!!!! I was able to snag a last minute appointment with Megan right before the holidays and I’m so glad I did! She chopped 12+ inches off so I could donate it to Wigs For Kids. She was willing to take some time to read the proper how to instructions for how to prepare and cut the hair (not in one or two long braids like most people think), and then she went for the chop! She put a lot of effort into styling the short hair do and curling it and I felt so wonderful and pretty afterwards. Thanks Megan!...
