This is the original JCPenney store, who knew? Really fun to run across this store traveling through rural Wyoming. The store is an operating JCPenney store with clothing and accessories for all ages, and has retained the original architectural details, woodwork, counters, display cases, dressing rooms/mirrors staircase, tin ceiling, light fixtures and other memorabilia. There's even the original pulley system they used to transport cash between the lower and upper level of the store. It's a mix of museum and modern day shopping. A very historical JC Penney store! This is the "Mother Store"...the first of the chain. The surrounding area is designated as the J. C. Penney Historic District, which was declared a National Historic Landmark District in 1978 for Penney's role in creating one of the first national department store chains.
