As a loyal customer of Chico’s Marked 4 Life for many years, I never thought I’d find myself in this situation. I decided to try Nick, I wasn’t familiar with his work. He did a small tattoo for me previously that turned out fine. I reached out to Nick for a larger, more detailed design—a mandala surrounded by flowers on my arm. Unfortunately, what followed was a very disappointing experience.
I contacted Nick and paid a deposit to begin the design. My instructions were clear: I wanted the mandala’s lines to stand out, and I specifically requested that the pepper shading not be too dark.
However, when the appointment arrived, the sketch wasn’t ready, and my appointment was rescheduled. When I arrived, the stencil still wasn’t prepared. Eventually, the stencil was placed, and while the lines seemed fine initially, as soon as the tattoo began, I noticed issues. Nick started shading areas that were supposed to have defined lines. When I asked him if he was doing the lines, he responded “yes.” But he wasn’t.
Nick had made several significant changes without consulting me, trying to fix crooked lines by shading over them, the mandala lost its shape when the stencil was placed. The proportions were off, it became elongated it wasn’t round anymore and the shading was not what I had requested. Instead of the subtle pepper shading, Nick used regular shading, which created a stark contrast that didn’t blend well with the rest of the tattoo.
I reached out to Nick hoping for accountability and it was clear he wasn’t taking responsibility for the mistakes. Even more disappointing was the response from the shop’s owner, Chico.
I contacted Chico calmly and respectfully, I mentioned my long-standing relationship with the shop, hoping for a more thoughtful response. Chico downplayed the situation, he also became upset when I had to reschedule and acted as though I was wasting his time. Very frustrating especially considering it was his artist who had made a mistake.
When we agreed to meet at the shop, Chico promised to show me work from two of his “best” artists to help me choose who would fix the tattoo. Instead of handling the situation himself, Chico sent his wife in. She has no knowledge of tattoos and seemed more focused on arguing with me than offering any solution. Her attitude was unprofessional and hostile. I expected Chico to handle the situation directly but he took her there to fight.
When Chico finally arrived, he remained silent while his wife continued to argue. Only when my daughter mentioned leaving a bad review did Chico speak up. His response was minimal and unhelpful. The two artists I was supposed to choose from that never happened and instead, Chico insisted that Xena would fix the tattoo. This decision was made without consulting me.
I reached out to Xena to inquire about her previous work fixing tattoos but received no response. But concluded that she likely had no experience in this area.
My experience with Chico’s Marked 4 Life has been extremely disappointing. The lack of professionalism, accountability, and respect from both Nick and Chico, along with the hostile attitude from Chico’s wife, has left me deeply dissatisfied. I now have a tattoo with crooked lines and blowouts and no clear path to fix it. Unless I opt for laser removal, I’m stuck with a design that isn’t what I wanted.
To anyone considering this shop, I would advise caution. While there have been talented artists at Chico’s Marked 4 Life in the past, my recent experience shows a significant decline. professionalism and customer service went out the door. I hope my story serves as a...

I walked into Chico’s Marked for Life expecting a simple piercing change and left with physical pain, emotional stress, and serious concerns about this shop’s professionalism and safety standards
To begin with, the piercer did not take the time to examine my existing piercing or compare it properly with the jewelry options available. A professional would remove the current jewelry and assess the gauge and length before proceeding — this was not done. Instead, the piercer appeared unsure and unprepared, asking for help multiple times and openly admitting he was unfamiliar with the layout of the tools and jewelry. This immediately raised a red flag.
What followed was even more concerning: while struggling to remove my existing piercing, the piercer called over another staff member I believe Brian is his name — someone who seemed to be the manager. Rather than taking the time to evaluate the size and fit, this individual attempted to force the incorrect jewelry into nose, which resulted in significant pain, bleeding, and trauma to my nose. Ultimately, they admitted the jewelry was the wrong size and stopped the procedure — but by then the damage had already been done. Not only that, but they also had NO alcohol wipes!!
The most disturbing part of this entire situation came as we were leaving. Brian (I believe his name was) came running out to apologize and said something that shook me to the core: “I just hired him off the street. He said he knew what he was doing.”
Let that sink in. This establishment entrusted my body and safety to someone with no verified experience or credentials?? That level of negligence is not just unprofessional — it’s dangerous.
A simple, routine visit turned into a painful and distressing ordeal because of blatant disregard for basic hygiene, safety, and professional standards. A verbal apology does nothing to fix the pain or trauma I experienced. This is more than a bad customer experience — it’s a serious liability and a risk to anyone walking through their doors.
Please think twice before trusting Chico’s Marked for Life with any piercing or body modification. Your health and safety are worth more than what this shop clearly offers.

Read moreI entered a contest by Anndy on Instagram, and was met with a very unprofessional and unnecessary message regarding the fact that it seemed that I unfollowed his page before winning the contest. It was an accident on instagrams part and still had the contest post up on my page. Anndy said that he would look past that I accidentally unfollowed him but the way he spoke to me was very salty, and almost resentful that I had won.He sent an eye rolling emoji with his messages, and the tone was very clear in his messages towards me. It made me very uncomfortable and I was hesitant to move forward. I chose to carry on because his work is very nice. I showed him a couple concepts and to one he flat at out said that he “didn’t even like it at all” which is just a problem in itself. He could have definitely taken my concept and worked something out to fit his style. On top of all of this, I continued to follow his Instagram viewing his stories whenever posted and it was very clear that he hadn’t taken this pandemic very seriously at all. He was going to hockey matches with 50+ people unmasked, the skate park unmasked, out to dinner unmasked, and only god knows where else, probably unmasked as well. I personally am high risk and have severe asthma, and I explained to him it would be one thing to go to work at the shop and come home and stay put to keep the spread of covid down but this wasn’t the case. Unfortunately he left me on read and wouldn’t apologize or even acknowledge his unprofessionalism. After all, I couldn’t bring myself to trust someone like that to put art into my skin. Please do research before coming and getting your...
