My son and I started training at GBLCF in 2019. Not having any martial arts background, I wasn't sure what to expect. And being an older person, I was a bit timid in the beginning. Quickly, however, everyone there made me feel welcomed and comfortable, and I knew I had made the right choice for my son and I.
After my first few months, I started to really appreciate the fact that there was a curriculum we followed, which made learning jiu jitsu fun and exciting. The curriculum is structured in a way that it repeats periodically, which makes it easier to learn and grow over time. And the kids and adults both follow the same curriculum, which gave me an opportunity to learn along-side my son.
I've now been training for 6 years, and if it wasn't for people like Professor Alec, Professor Arlene, Professor Cam, and all of my training partners there, I don't think I would have made it this far. Thank you GB Team for getting me this far (safely) and for continuing to further my advancement...
Read moreI’ve been training at Gracie Barra La Cañada since I was a white belt, and after 10 years, I earned my black belt here last fall. This place has always felt like home to me—it’s safe, welcoming, and full of people who’ve become like family.
As a woman in a mostly male gym, I’ve always felt respected and comfortable here. The environment is super supportive, and the culture really encourages connection, growth, and mutual respect. A lot of my closest friends are people I met on these mats. Professor Alec brings great energy and is clearly passionate about both the gym and his students. The instructors are awesome, and the class schedule has a good mix for all levels. Whether you’re just starting or have been training for years, you’ll always get solid training and fun rolls here. Gracie Barra La Cañada is more than just a place to train—it’s a community, and I’m really grateful to...
Read moreGracie Barra La Cañada Flintridge has been a huge part of my life since the very beginning. I started coaching here in 2014 when the school first opened its doors, and from day one, I knew this place was special. Over the years, I’ve had the honor of helping build this school from the ground up—watching students grow in confidence, strength, and skill, and seeing our community come together like a family.
I’ve poured my heart and soul into this place, and every class, every student, and every moment on the mats has meant the world to me. Today, I’m incredibly proud to serve as the head professor of GBLCF. It’s more than just a Jiu-Jitsu school—it’s a place where people come to better themselves, support each other, and become part of something truly meaningful.
If you’re looking for a place to train, grow, and feel at home, I can’t recommend Gracie Barra La Cañada...
