This is my second time at Dish. The first time, I treated my grandparents for my grandmother's birthday. Today, my fiance and I went to enjoy a meal with a gift certificate given to her for Christmas 2014 by the parent of one of her students; he had actually bought $50 gift certificates for the entire staff.
Why is this rating for just 1 star? It is entirely due to the fact that we were essentially robbed. Due to being on a very tight budget, we had carefully budgeted our meal to be very close to the $50 value of the gift certificate. There was no expiration date on the certificate, and we should have had to only pay under $3 (plus the tip for the full value of the check, naturally).
However, when the waitress brought the check back, she was blushing. She told us that we weren't going to like this, but they would not accept the gift certificate. Apparently, according to the waitress, management changed in January, and they were no longer were accepting these gift certificates from before the management change. She stated that they accepted them for 5 months from the date of ownership change, and that was it.
I cannot begin to describe our disappointment over this. We are left with no extra money to enjoy ourselves on Sunday. Dish is getting paid twice for this meal -- once for the cost of the gift certificate, and again for the actual check. Anybody else who hasn't yet used the gift certificates they were given are out of luck.
I could understand if all gift certificate owners had been contacted and notified before they stopped accepting them, but that is simply not the case. It also may be understandable if we had waited over a year to use the certificate, which should be the amount of time the new management ought to have accepted them before refusing them in the future. Again, it was less than 9 months... some may say that's a long time, but considering we don't often spend our free time in La Canada, we were well within our rights to wait until we were ready to use it.
To make matters worse, the waitress claimed that she needed to confiscate the gift certificate which we were unable to use! This was just essentially adding insult to injury.
I felt particularly insulted that the manager apparently sent the waitress to do his dirty work of informing us that they would not accept the legitimately purchased gift certificate, rather than having the courage and integrity to inform us him/herself. We were not even offered a discount, free dessert, or anything!
If I hear back from Dish, I am certainly willing to revise my review, as the rest of the meal went well. But this poor treatment of honest customers currently leads me to be unwilling to ever recommend Dish to anybody. Until I hear back from Dish, I will do all in my power to tell everyone about our unfair treatment, as will my fiance. Please respond soon, Dish! I am hoping that you will be courageous enough to...
Read moreOh dear. I used to love going to Dish. Last night I went with a large group before heading to Enchanted at Descanso Gardens. Now, please understand that I am a former server. I completely understand what happens when it's a super busy Saturday night. Tables get confused, orders go out wrong, kitchens can be in the weeds. Last night, however, was an exemplary example of an all around terrible experience. Our server David, seemed drunk. At least I hope he was drunk because the service was so bad, we were outsourcing our drinks from the bar since he took our drink orders and returned 30 minutes later. One of us ij the party ordered the burger with onion rings. It showed up with fries. This was brought to David's attention, and cane back with onion rings, and said, "I'll let you keep the fries for free, and here us the side of onion rings". Her husband's order was wrong too, letting David know that there was no dressing on his Green Goddess sandwich, and he also got fries instead of onion rings. David pointed to the onion rings on the table and asked, "Well, couldn't you just share those?". We had 2 people drinking iced tea. It took David about an hour to see that they needed refills, and instead of freshening their glasses, he dropped a pitcher of iced tea on the table right in front of them. I understand that it is casual dining, but I didnt realize they had dropped their standards to a Shakeys Pizza with the leaving of giant pitchers on the table. My boyfriend ordered the popcorn chicken and a caesar salad. He recieved what looked like charcoal briquettes and no salad ever appeared. David said, "Don't worry about it, I will take that off your bill." Well no kidding David, we never got it. 4 other people in the party didnt recieve their dinner AT ALL. They ended up eating from other people's plates including part of the meal their kids ordered. David seemed pretty mellow through the whole thing, and he said he would "hook us up". His idea of hooking us up was giving us a "good neighbor discount" of 10% off our bill.
Hey David? We aren't paying for food we never recieved buddy, let alone the dishes that showed up were all wrong. All of them. The kitchen did not seem behind, yet the food that did come was tepid or cold. We asked to see the manager. We explained that we could sympathize that the restaurant was packed, but the service and food were equally as awful.
As we were leaving, we overheard the hostess inform another large party that had reservations at 6, that they would not be able to seat them until 7.
I hate leaving bad reviews, but this one...
Read moreI had the most unpleasant experience at this restaurant. I was invited to a Thanksgiving dinner that was reserved in advance, but unfortunately, the service was beyond disappointing. Not only did it take an unusually long time to receive our drinks, but I waited an additional 30 minutes for my drink—an Arnold Palmer—after the rest of the table had theirs. Given that it wasn’t a custom-made drink, this delay was completely unacceptable. When our server finally arrived to take our orders, he was rushed and seemed disengaged. I understand it was a busy holiday, but when you make a reservation, you expect at least basic attention and respect. I ordered the Short Rib Ragu, but when the food was brought out, the dish was completely wrong. The plate was not a ragu at all, and the staff insisted it was my order. After informing the runner about the mistake, no one came back to check on our table, leaving my party to enjoy their meals while I waited with nothing in front of me. It wasn’t until an hour later that the server returned, and when I explained the mistake, he hurried off and brought me the same cold plate of food that I hadn’t ordered. A ragu is supposed to be pasta, not two slabs of meat. This was still the same cold dish from an hour before, like he still didn’t listen to whatI was saying. At this point, I was trying hard to stay calm, but it was difficult, especially being the only person of color at the table (and the restaurant) and the only one receiving this type of service. I ended up requesting my food to go when he finally decided to understand my order but even that took another 30 minutes. By the time I left, my Thanksgiving was completely ruined.
I highly recommend that anyone considering this restaurant reconsider, especially people of color who may encounter subpar service. This was an incredibly disappointing experience.
(I was thankful my meal was comped but thats no excuse for how...
