I really like Pete's Market. I don't think, well, let me say this, I have never seen better vegetables anywhere on the Southside of Chicago! Fabulous stuff. The men who put the stock out do it swiftly and with incredible skill. Every once & a while, I see them toss a bad piece into a trash bin. That's how skilled these gentlemen are at what they do! Amazing. At this location there is a very sweat & kind lady who works in the bakery. When she has a fresh batch out of the oven, she waves me over. My Lord, their fresh rolls and buns are the best. Now please understand, it's comical because I don't speak Spanish and lots of them don't speak English. They are very patient with me. We have a good laugh at times. Like taco shells, they have no clue what I want when I ask for flour taco shells. It's funny. It's almost as funny as the time I asked the 2 Muslim ladies at the Muslim Pete's Market for Pita bread. I kept saying, "You know, Gyros bread. When I found it I showed it to them & said Pita bread. This store is always clean, well stocked, very kind helpful people. The already prepared meals are very good. The prices are a little high, but the food is excellent. The meat is as high a quality as the vegetables. Even if you have to travel a bit to go here, the better quality of the fresh vegetables is well worth it 👌. The pictures I'm showing you are things I always buy. I freeze the things im saving as soon as i get home, so please excuse that. COD, always fresh. Yes, it's $9, but I get 2 meals. So good! The big red frozen thing, This stuff is fabulous, not spicy hot. You add your spice. I could eat 20 of these in 1 sitting. Soo goood! I put this pork on street tacos with some lemon juice. The sandwiches, I get 8 per box, I have lunch for a week. Or, if I'm going out with friends it's a perfect take along. I showed you the little street tacos, just the right size sometimes. I already ate the vegetables I do have 8lbs of potatoes, I don't think you want to see a picture of those, lol. My favorite Mac & Cheese was on sale for $1.99, great buy. MY 1 COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS STORE. THEY DON'T SMALL BOTTLES OF DRINKS, I HAD TO BUY A GIANT TEA. WAY TO MUCH. GET LITTLE ONES GUYS! Definitely stop...
Read morePETE'S is a very clean store and has fresh products. They're about the same price wise as.most surrounding grocery stores. My only complaint.is I shopped there a week ago and had to almost argue.with the cashier about doubling a bag. She proceeded to put two family size packs of chicken a bag of potatoes and a carton of milk all in one flimsy bag. I asked her if she.could double the bag as I didn't want the bag to bust and the groceries to fall out. She tells me no she can't do that, I asked her why or am I to buy an additional bag? She tells me they don't double bag groceries anymore. I told her well that's odd and I only wanted one bag of my groceries doubled. She then tells me she has to ask the manager if its ok. He comes over and says well they just started using those particular bags again so they stopped double bagging groceries but she.could go ahead.and double bag the items. All of that over 1 bag out of 100 worth of food I purchased there. If that's the case either don't pile so many items in one bag or get sturdier bags and charge a dime per bag like Aldi and...
Read moreFirst of all, it seems like the only people that know how to bag groceries are the older women that work the register. Get yourself someone younger than 30 and you can bet your bread and soft items will be squished by everything heavy that they’ll inevitably set on top. Bagging groceries- it’s not rocket science.
Secondly, some of the younger people’s customer service could use some help.. it’s not completely their fault when their supervisors customer service is just as bad. I was waiting for my total to be read to me and the cashier’s supervisor appeared and started talking to her, which is fine information needs to get relayed. But you don’t ignore the customer at that point completely. As I waited on her to say anything to me her supervisor noticed me waiting and pointed at my total on the screen and says “Yeah.” Basically prompting me to pay. Like I’m the one interrupting something lol He was definitely old enough to know better. Hopefully in the future there is better management and better training because...
