Update: Gave them another chance. This time my experience was much improved. The manger with the orange hair (slay) helped another customer while I eavesdropped on their conversation. She has an effervescence that comes naturally making it easy to converse. I used a pair of earrings I'd bought from their Milwaukee Ave location a couple years ago as a test of what I perceived as a contradictory/discriminatory buying practices at Buffalo Exchange. They accepted them and a pair of brass earrings. Looks like jewelry is the key. My clothing didn't garner much unfortunately but it was a positive customer experience. It remains whether my improved experience is the norm or an anomaly.
Previous Review I had a great experience with the brown boy behind the counter going through my items. This isn't about him. This is going to be about the Clark and Milwaukee locations. This is about the person who may be his boss. A tallish, long brown haired girl telegraphing negative vibes as he and I conversed. After she rejected an item he'd asked about it was time to cash out. If I thought I was was being discriminated against before, she really drove it home by refusing the basic decency of replying "you're welcome" to multiple "thank you's" for the chump change I received for my items lol. A couple of years ago I attempted to buy a pair of jeweled snake earrings with a pearl at the base. The short blond hair, slim, very faired skinned, rocker looking girl ignored me. Took two customers in front of me. I was upset and left. Halfway down the block I realized I REALLY wanted those earrings so I came back. She made no comment as I requested customer service to take the earrings out for me. Her attitude was cold. It was clear she didn't want me there. So I remembered yesterday that that's why I never go to Buffalo Exchange. Life is hard enough for everyone. No one, regardless of what they look like should have deal with an extra dose of BS at a thrift store or anywhere else. I won't be coming back. Mission...
Read moreSo I usually go to the Buffalo Exchange on Milwaukee which has great staff and there all super sweet, today I decided to go to the BE in Andresonville since I was going to stay for the festival, young lady proceeded to take my sell, and as I would normally do I started looking around the store, I stayed close to the register just in case they needed me, however I could see the girl in the red shirt and another woman in a bob with HEAVY eyeliner whispering and snickering which made me think they were talking about me and about my clothes, I don’t appreciate employees being shady or snickering, about wardrobe Im selling, thats the point of me being there, I had a bag full of clothing, in season t-shirts, seasonal sweaters and a tone of jeans and cargos pants. Which I was able to sell at Crossroads and Alexis Attic. The girl in the red shirt tried to make me shop at the store, HA!! After I heard her talking smack about my clothes, girl bye!! The fact that these girls, were so rude and dismissive of clothing I was selling is abhorrent and ultimately made me go to Crossroads. I will not go back to the Andersonville location again, but I will definitely take my business too Crossroads, or just go back to the BE in Milwaukee where customer service is the number one priority. I can’t say they were all rude, the gentleman that cashed me out was super nice and even showed me a dress he thought would look good on me, which I appreciated, but what I wanted to do was just get out of there. Lucky for me I can fake the funk and just went with the flow in the store until I left. But if youre looking to sell your used clothes, you have a better chance at Crossroads or check out the BE...
Read moreI had an extremely disappointing and unsettling experience at Buffalo Exchange Andersonville. I had an item on hold, and when I came back to pick it up, the manager, Greta, first tried to gaslight me by asking, "Are you sure you were here yesterday?" Then she had a clearly overwhelmed new employee and me search every rack on the floor for the item — wasting both our time. There is a clear pattern of bullying employees which this manager teds to do quote prominently humilating them infront of other peers and patrons.
Later, Greta changed her story and claimed someone had put the wrong date on the hold tag and that another employee must have put the item back on the floor. That was not true. The date Jenna had put was correct.
Eventually, camera footage revealed that Greta herself was the one who placed the item back out — despite knowing it was on hold. Even after that, she continued deflecting blame and had someone else help me search for it, pretending she didn’t know what happened.
This behavior was dishonest, manipulative, and incredibly unprofessional — especially from someone in a management position. I strongly suspect theft or intentional mishandling of the item. It’s unacceptable.
I’ve since looked at other reviews and noticed a pattern of complaints about this manager. Clearly, this isn’t an isolated incident. Buffalo Exchange needs to take a serious look at the leadership at this location — it’s hurting the customer experience...
