Okay so to thoroughly explain myself I'm going to start from the beginning. When I first came to Lakewood Barbershop there was a girl that was initially cutting my hair. During the time she would cut my hair I noticed Barber Jamil King, and from what I saw he looked like an excellent Barber and I wanted to get my haircut by him. Coincidentally the girl discontinued her service at the shop so I took that opportunity to make an appointment with him. I made my appointment and I went to his chair. While cutting my hair he was extremely rough with my head and pushed my head around as if he did not care, like he was having a bad day or something. I felt him pushing my head around as if my head was a piece of garbage. On top of that I was also disappointed with my cut. Giving this establishment a chance instead of writing them off for one bad experience I decided to make an appointment with a different barber Mike Allen. I have been to him several times and each time I feel the cut is just mediocre. The Last Straw was yesterday when I went and made an appointment with Mike Allen. I made a 1:30 appointment and came in at exactly 1:30 and someone else was in the chair. Mike did not get done till 1:45 with this customer. After he was done with this customer 15 minutes past my appointment time, he proceeded to sit in his chair with his back to me and watch YouTube videos with his headphones on. I know he noticed me sitting there in the chairs because I was right in front of him while he was cutting the previous customers hair. I know he knew I was there because I was talking about basketball with them, as well as coming to him all those previous times before, he should know my face. He turned around and sat in his chair at 1:46 and didn't get out of his chair from watching his YouTube videos to acknowledge me till 2:13, and then asked me if I had an appointment. I had made my appointment the previous day. While this was going on, I sat there and I waited patiently to let this whole thing play out to see what was going to happen. So after I told him I made an appointment he sat me down in the chair. Mike Allen was very unattentive to the needs of me as the customer. As if he did not care what my requests were for my cut. Unresponsive, no communication and he just wanted to get his job done and get to the next cut. That's NOT how you treat customers. To leave me sitting there when I made an appointment way past the time I was supposed to be in the chair shows that Mike Allen either does not care about his customers or he is not keeping up with his appointment scheduling to effectively manage his clientele base to run that business to the level of satisfaction that someone of his standard via his service to the community is required. That is HIGHLY unprofessional. Would you be surprised that I left disappointed with my cut? I should not have to ask for a straight razor after my Shape Up is done with the Clippers. I should not have to beg him to do his job and feel like I'm bothering him because of doing so. It's like Barber and Tacoma are allergic to the straight razor. It's pure laziness and the downright lack of work ethic or passion for your job. What's the point of complying with the shops request to use the application and manage appointments responsibly if this is the type of service they are going to deliver. It's especially disappointing this type of service is coming from our black communities. This review might not change anything but somebody has to say something who's not afraid to speak out because the service I received from the lakewood barbershop in the last few months is absolutely preposterous and they need to be held...

I showed him a photo that my kid has been growing his hair out for months to try to replicate. I guess the haircut wasnât âfreshâ enough, because Rell made a comment that the cut wasnât going to do him any favors. Donât really care what you think, but Ok - should have left at that point but we agreed for it to be slightly shorter than pictured because he said it would look better, and I thought we were good. I left him to it.
Rell took it upon himself at the end to do a âline upâ on a white boyâs hair and then tell me after that âhe wanted it.â This child doesnât even understand what that means or what he was agreeing to and Rell didnât show enough respect for either of us to clarify or ask me if I wanted something that wasnât agreed upon at the start, wasnât in the photo I provided, and definitely didnât go with the hair type or longer haircut style my son wanted.
The haircut looks so stupid. Rell looked amused, as if he did it on purpose (maybe we werenât welcome there and he wanted to make sure we knew that?). He smirked like he found it funny that I was shocked and disappointed with the result. He said âyou gotta let the barber know.â Dude, I showed you a picture. Nowhere in that picture was a young child with straight white boy baby hairs cut into a âline upâ on a middle part undercut. His hairline looks like trash now. He has to comb his hair down over his forehead for the next few months to cover it up now. The cut was rushed. It was choppy and not well-blended on his thick straight hair. I could have watched a YouTube video and done a better job myself. This guy must be really new to cutting hair?
I found this barber to be disrespectful and predatory toward children. My kid burst into tears when we got in the car because he felt like he had done something wrong. He told me he didnât understand what the barber had asked him, but because he felt intimidated he just said yes to whatever he said. :( The whole thing just felt gross. I did not find this place welcoming or âfamily friendlyâ as advertised. It felt unprofessional, and unsafe for my child....
