It was a hot day , I knew I looked like a homeless bum out here but man those people were so good to me I walked in and I wasn't quite sure what to think at first. really needed to sit down and I could use a shot of rice wine if you know what I mean. That cold rice wine... it was a really cool presentation with the little wooden box they bring it in and then I realized it really tasted good because I usually like hot sake but it was already hot outside and it quenched my thirst and it had a slight sweet taste almost like Spanish apple cider with the rice taste after. I mean I don't know if this guy was mad cool or they were trying to get rid of the last bit or they changed how they do it or he was trying to create a repeat customer being nice. He laughed joke with me I told him I know I look terrible. He was knowledgeable he was nice he joked around. I wasn't treated poorly even though I look like a bum with scratches on my arms and dirty from cleaning all morning and dirt on my shirt.. the kind of person you usually want to run out of a nicer place like that but he didn't care. I sat down tired drink my sake and he brings me eight pieces of Nigiri and I came here before ordering sashimi. the slices of meat and portions for especially the amount I paid. I don't usually get starstruck like this about food but it was so good I mean like I can still taste it in my nostrils because I just ate a piece like 30 minutes ago. Absolutely fresh small bar few amounts of choices but absolutely extremely fresh and delicious that's the only thing I can't stop thinking about is all the fresh taste on my tongue and nose still. The portions were huge and fair for that price there's a sushi place next door and their nigiri slices are probably 1/4 or 1/3 that big. I love those people and they are great to me but that's just when you want the novelty because you could tell it was a little bit less fresh I mean it was fresh enough to be better than a grocery store and it's cheaper but if you want the real deal that place right next to them. I really hope I can figure out where he got that fish from only thing about the west coast is I miss my Spanish mackerel from East. That's a really good sushi as well. I've never gushed over this kind of thing but I had to say something because I'm coming back with a vengeance I mean I only got eight pieces and I ate three and I had to put the box back in the fridge and come sit here and do this. I got 3 hours to walk 10 minutes there right now I just can't decide what I want yet because everything. I mean that price the rice ratio I thought it was extremely Fair and I think that he nailed it right out of Fenway ballpark. It was far too good and the right size piece ..some places may try to rip you off cuz because they ball up more rice to trick you and fill you up. He did less with more meat which means he wants you to taste it and I appreciate that to the five star rating I gave him. That's how you're supposed to be when you want to be the best of the best. Perfect. price extremely fair. I got the perfect amount for what I paid because next door I would have paid the same or more for less quality and smaller portion and I love those guys... every now and then just to be fair they do pick up a good piece of meat or fish Like when the husband gave me the king mackerel for free. Second time I've been there I was a little unsure I'm locked in now. That photo is from the first time the second one is way better but I...
Read moreThis is a favorite place of my boyfriend and daughter to go to. I'm not a huge fan of Asian cuisine, so they usually go when im not around. However tonight I indulged them and said I would go. My BF told me the food is great but the service is terrible, he was preparing me I assume. After pouring over the menu trying to decide what I wanted, I have no clue what a lot of the things are, but after googling a few things 😅 I found something I was actually excited to try! Well they had other plans. My BF and daughter typically share and always orders egg rolls to share. Their food came out, her side of rice and the egg rolls included. But mine was not. Wasn't even mentioned that mine was coming. So I assumed she just had to go back for it. Well I wait and wait, tell them to start without me, my food never came. Even after being apologized to and told it was on it's way it still never came. They were almost finished with their food when we decided to just cancel mine out. We watched this happen to several tables and after reading the reviews it appears to be a regular problem. I think I heard the waitress apologize at least 20x. So my advice to the owners would be that typically food is not delivered until the full order is complete. If an item cooks faster than others start that last. Although my order was a simple noodle dish. But I can't figure out why this would be a normal occurance? Anyways, long review but I had time while they were eating. And yes, they shared. But rice was about the extent of what I liked from what they ordered. It upset my BF to the point of him not wanting to return anymore since there is always an issue with the service. Guess this was the final straw. Which saddens me because they really enjoyed their daddy daughter dinners here. Now to find a new place for them. One more thing, I think all the uber eats and door dash orders are part of the problem. The front lot was full and most of the cars were for pickup orders from these companies. Maybe focus on the customers who are there 1st. Just a thought! If you made it this far thanks for reading my review! I gave it a 2 star because the food looked pretty good and my picky eater chowed down. But after reading the review about the cockroaches, I'm kinda glad I didnt get my food. I didn't tell the family since they were already eating and didnt want to ruin it for them. Was that mean? 😅 I'm off to enjoy my fortune...
Read moreAbout a month ago I discovered Happy Teriyaki with a friend of mine. Back then I gave the restaurant a 5 star review. Now I am absolutely changing that to a one star, zero of it was an option.
A few days ago my friend and I went in, placed our order to go, which was normal for us, and left with our food. Upon arriving home, I discovered that my order was incorrect. I called the store and was told it would be replaced next time I came in. I always order either teriyaki chicken and sesame chicken or just sesame chicken, so it seemed weird that I had only sweet and sour chicken in the box. But things happen...
Today I went in to get my replacement meal and was told that all I would be getting was a side order of the sesame chicken. Some how the lady misunderstood me when I said my friend got his teriyaki, but I only received sweet and sour. Again, that may be understandable, but even after I explained that she must have misunderstood she continued to argue.
Finally she did the right thing and replaced my entire meal, but today I added a medium side of rice and asked for two additional sides of dressing. She charged me 50 cents for the dressing... well, okay...
However, then I sat down in a booth to wait for my meal to arrive. I assume it was the owner, or manager, but could have just been one of the servers, came up to me out of the blue and asked if I had filled my S'well bottle full of their teriyaki sauce. I tried to show her what was in my drink bottle...I even took a drink of the green tea that was in the bottle... but she kept saying I was stealing their teriyaki sauce. I even asked her for one of their cups, so I could pour some of my tea in it to show her it was tea, but she just said, "It's okay, just ask for teriyaki sauce in you need it and we'll get it for you from the back. "
So when my order, with my extra rice came out, I asked for the teriyaki sauce. She opened my meal box, pointed at my teriyaki chicken, and said, "there's your teriyaki sauce."
Needless to say, I will never return to Happy Teriyaki in Lakewood again. There are too many teriyaki restaurants in the area, that don't accuse their customers of stealing the teriyaki sauce, for me to...
