I recently had the chance to visit a family-run business in Lansing, Michigan, and I was truly impressed by both their products and their hospitality. From the moment you walk in, they make you feel like a welcomed guest rather than just another customer. While I was waiting, they kindly served me a piece of shortcake along with a cup of coffee, the combination was simple but absolutely delicious. What touched me the most was their generosity. Knowing that I was visiting from Canada, they even offered me a complimentary pack of three shortcakes to take home. It was such a thoughtful gesture that really reflects the warmth and values of this business. Dried beans, canned beans, dates, coffee, biscuits, cookies, frozen whole fish, stewing hens, .... This store is packed with a wide variety of foods and the owners are so, so so kind. Exactly the type of people who make you feel like you're a local in a neighborhood. I came in on a snowy day and was hit with a delicious smell. It turns out the owner was making Libyan Osban (sort of herb, chili, liver sausage, of sorts). When I said how good it smelled she offered me some (and also insisted that I came back later for a full plate of food, on her). It was delicious and you can order this if you like on days where they are making a batch (so a bit luck of the draw).

If you have not been here you are missing out in one of Lansing’s greatest gems. You are instantly greeted warmly, and they have such a great array of products! The lamb is great quality, made for a wonderful birthday dinner. BUT…. The desserts are NEXT LEVEL!! I ordered an assortment box for 2, and I cannot tell you which one is my favorite! You can make no wrong choice with their desserts. - call ahead though because EVERYTHING is made fresh with quality wholesome ingredients.
