Not sure if it was the owner but whoever was in charge this Saturday is wrong about their posted hours and chewed me out because of it. On Saturdays the hours are listed as 11am-11pm. This is true on both Google and Apple Maps. I placed an order for carry-out on Saturday at around 10pm for a meal, rice, and an order of spring rolls. I work in food service myself so I understand how annoying it is for a customer to walk in late at night when you’re trying to close, but I arrived at 10:32 exactly. The woman first said “We’ve been waiting for you.” She and another employee were standing at the counter with their arms crossed glaring at me when I walked in. She then told me they close at 10:30. I said no, I checked two different sources that said 11. I didn’t bring my phone in so couldn’t show her. She interrupted me to tell me I was wrong. I explained that it says 11 right on the website I placed the order on, so she needs to change it. She said “No! 10:30, but you’ll remember next time.” And then gestured like she was shooing me out of the store like an animal. Their website actually says they close at 11:30 on Saturday, whereas Tripadvisor says 9:30, Google 11, etc. The first two sources I checked both said 11 so that was what I went by and that is what I attempted to explain to her but she was not interested. Throughout the entire interaction her voice was raised. I have never in my life been scolded by someone I’m purchasing food from, which for the record, wasn’t very good. I wasn’t expecting much anyways but I wouldn’t be leaving a bad review if they hadn’t given me such memorable service. I especially like how she told me to remember the hours next time as if I would...
Read moreI have eaten here for years. It was Lansings best kept secret. I loved it. No more. Must be new owners and they don't know how to cook. General Tsaos chicken was like eating the soles of leather shoes. Sauce was awful. Couldn't even chew it, it was way over cooked. Egg Rolls, formerly the best in Lansing were dried out sweepings off the floor. How do you make cabbage too dry to eat? I'm baffled. Then there was the hot and Sour soup. A coagulated bowl of cornstarch liquid ( and I'm not kidding) it was full of chicken skin and feathers and had no cabbage or bamboo or any other signs of vegetables. All three of these items went in the garbage disposal. And the worst part, this is strike three. So it's my fault for going back. The old staff was kind, generous and talented. This staff is rude, doesn't know the basics about cooking and doesn't care. And yes the portions are greatly reduced this year but it doesn't really matter as you wouldn't want to eat it anyway. They should leave while they still can because it's pretty obvious no one is going there any more. Feathers and chicken skin in my soup? Really? They must think...
Read moreDespite a slew of negative recent reviews, I decided to give Asian Gourmet a shot. Upon entering it was obvious that this restaurant was an old school, traditional Americanized Chinese restaurant that was setup primarily for takeout. The menu was fairly extensive with fair pricing for today’s world. Some of the staff could use a bit of training in conversation with Americans as the girl taking my order was a bit short, but I think that was more of a cultural difference than her trying to be mean.
My food was ready after a relatively short wait and I opted to sit at one of their few tables. I was generally satisfied with my food. The fried rice was good and the orange chicken was decent but could have had a bit better sauce. I really enjoyed my egg roll and found the crab rangoons to be bigger than what most Chinese restaurants have in the area. In the end, I felt like I had a satisfying meal at a fair price. Keep in mind that they do not really have a way to service drinks, so plan ahead if you want...
