Good quality ice and a decent atmosphere for a southern rink. The free skates and skate and shoots are an hour and a half to two hours long and a decent value.
Although the rink has one major problem and it’s the hockey program. The director is somewhat incompetent or is just very overworked. He will generally not return calls or texts for several days and mess up details. My team all got free skates for signing up but we all got different amounts despite paying the same amount of money. Most heinously of all the skill levels are not separated or enforced at all. I play in the novice league on a team of novices and we regularly get beat 7-0 or 9-3 by people who also play in the d and c leagues. The director sits ideally by and watches pretending nothing is wrong. I simply do not understand how anyone finds this fair. When we brought it up he said it’s basically our fault we are bad cause we made our team! What is the point of creating separate leagues if you are going to use that logic. They should NOT let people play 2 leagues down and regularly wipe the floor with a bunch of beginners. Some of ten most fun I’ve had playing hockey has been here, but it’s been against one of the rare other teams in the league that doesn’t disregard the spirit of having a novice league.
I love the rink to death, it’s where I learned to play the game I love but I can just not get over paying a good amount of money to consistently get discouraged at the lowest level of play! I don’t understand how people are supposed to get a start in this sport with hockey programs like this. I’ve been constantly considering playing...
Read moreWorst ice surface I've ever played hockey on in my life, and I'm 31 and have lived in 3 states. If you compared pictures of the 2 ice surfaces at CIA without setting foot in the building you'd be shocked to find they were in the same time period, let alone building. Sure they have a pretty nice looking rink in the back, but the one you have to walk past to get there is absolutely pathetic. At the start of the third period there was STILL huge puddles all over the rink. Up north these conditions would be too poor to play pond hockey on. The corners of the rink dip so much the puck gets caught, it is absolutely atrocious.
This rink is owned by the same idiot that owns Tampa Bay Skating Academy in Oldsmar, which is where our league normally plays but ice conditions on one of those rinks were bad enough for the zamboni to fall into a hole in the ice. That's how bad it had to get for this mindless moron to finally decide to pay to have the ice redone.
Our team is moving to the rink in Wesley Chapel which is gonna be a very long drive for the majority of us. We're glad to do it, knowing the ice will be exponentially better.
Please keep in mind that the owner is absolutely the problem here. The employees are friendly and helpful. The prices are the highest I've ever seen. $22 for me to skate around for an hour and a half and shoot some pucks? Why? HOW DO YOU JUSTIFY THAT? It's an incredibly high price for literally the worst ice conditions I've ever seen.
If you wanna see an actual ice rink, make the drive to Brandon or Wesley...
Read moreThis place is OLD. They have 2 rinks. One new rink is decent and on par with any other new rink, but the other rink might be the oldest rink in Florida. The ice is downright terrible and a safety concern. When playing hockey you really can't go full-tilt for fear of losing an edge on the soft ice or hitting a massive rut. People tend to get injured on this ice more than anywhere else I've played. The ceiling is low so the puck will hit it often, and it leaks whenever it's raining outside. The locker rooms are so disgusting, and the restrooms are all a cesspool of bacteria, urine everywhere... I really can't do it justice with words... truly disgusting and I don't know if they've ever had a janitor on staff. The adult hockey leagues are poorly organized with mixed skill levels in every league, and sometimes you'll show up to play and the other team will not have a goalie. They also are terrible about starting games 5 to 10 minutes early. People miss warmups and beginning parts of games because the kids they've got reffing and keeping time want to go home 10 minutes early. It's ridiculous that you pay to play, show up on time, and then half your team misses puck drop and doesn't get any warmup because some 15 year old stoner wanted to leave early. Update... new management is at least trying to...
