My entire experience at the Kansas City Orthopedic Institute (KCOI) was exceptional from the very beginning, which consisted of obtaining an MRI to scheduling surgery for rotator cuff issues. This is medical healthcare the way it is supposed to be practiced. Every aspect of my care was seamless (actually flawless) in terms of obtaining the MRI, meeting with Dr. Stanley Bowling, scheduling the surgery itself, and the actual day of surgery. Dr. Bowling was so understanding and empathic concerning my shoulder. He quickly diagnosed what the shoulder issue was, how he would proceed to surgically repair the problem, and informed me as to what I should expect during and after the surgery. I could not be more pleased with the outstanding team of medical professionals that were assembled for my rotator cuff surgery. The medical care professionals consisted of Cherie (RN), Michelle (RN), Billy (CRNA), and Dr. Stanley Bowling (orthopedic surgeon with more than 30+ years of clinical practice) to head up this talented team. I want to also mention the exceptional health care I received from Dr. Amanda Downey (anesthesiologist) that explained to me in such understandable language the anesthetic agents she would using in the OR. I couldn’t help but think how someone like Dr. Downey would be such a terrific teacher in a medical school program. I also want to mention the recovery room nurse, Aaron (RN), who was outstanding in terms of facilitating my recovery with no issues. Lastly, I must mention Karri, who was in charge of my discharge form KCOI. Overall, this talented team of health care providers delivered exceptional health care in a timely and compassionate manner, and with the utmost attention to the patient’s physical and mental well-being. I always felt informed about every step of the journey (from the initial meeting with Dr. Bowling until the surgery itself) and I want to emphasize the continuity of care as evidenced by follow-up appointments, physical therapy, making sure prescription medications were called in to the pharmacy, etc. In summary, I recommend KCOI with my very highest enthusiasm for addressing orthopedic issues. This is a physician-owned alliance and there is no bureaucracy involved in obtaining health care as there can sometimes be with larger medical institutions in Kansas City. I cannot thank my healthcare team enough for my rotator cuff surgery and relief of chronic pain in my shoulder and neck. Thank you all so much for doing what you do each and every day to improve the quality of life for so many individuals suffering from a myriad of...
Read moreI went in for a labrum slap tear last Wednesday 12/11. When I left surgery I do not remember anything, but they sent me home with instructions and also told my wife what we needed to do. This was great and I followed the instructions even though I thought I should wait, but a week later and I am glad for the instructions. I feel great, no more pain pills, I still have some pain, but it is no worse than before the surgery. I received calls from the surgery team the next day following up and making sure that there were no complications. I then received a card signed by the surgery team, which was very sweet. I can not wait to go back Friday and get my...
Read moreDr.Bowling is Great! Very thorough, very knowledgeable and friendly. I broke my Tib/Fib back in September, and he has taken care of me the whole way. 2 operations, 7 days in St.Lukes hospital, everyone there was very nice.. Dr. Appointments are great, cause we don't waste each others time. They are prompt, professional and answer all my wife's questions - which is most important. So. If you happen to fall thru a garage ceiling, land on your right leg and shatter everything in it, all at the age of 59 - you definitely want Dr. Bowling to take...
