My daughter came to her love of dance late. She didn't start really dancing until she was 12. She believed she wanted the "competition" dance, and we tried it for a few years. Dozens of costume fees, recital costumes, competition fees, private lesson fees, class fees ... It makes me sweat thinking about it!
The best thing that ever happened to her was leaving competition behind and starting dance with Lexington Ballet. Yes - it's “only” ballet. But ballet is the basis for all other dance. Lexington Ballet encourages Master classes in other disciplines and offers plenty of opportunities. Last year they brought Alvin Ailey dance from New York for a modern class and an audition for summer intensive. Because of Lexington Ballet instruction to prepare her, my daughter received a FULL scholarship to attend a 6 week intensive in NYC this past summer.
Every instructor at Lexington Ballet is a current professional or has been a professional dancer. Luis (the artistic director) and Nancy (the school director) Dominguez could phone it in and have others teach. But their dedication to their dancers and Lexington Ballet is unparalleled. Nancy has made herself available to assist my daughter with auditions preparation and not wanted compensation. How many dance teachers would require payment for an hour with a student? All that I worked with before LBC.

Read moreSo sad to see such a beloved institution suffer due to one person’s corruption and poor leadership. The entire company and school staff have quit due to the executive director’s toxic and inappropriate behavior. She has somehow named herself the board chair, executive director, and CEO and therefore dismantled the system that should be holding her accountable for her actions. She has continued to promote an upcoming season and post on social media (even blocking and deleting comments with any acknowledgement of the situation) like nothing has happened and refuses to acknowledge the damage that has been done. I hope the broader community can find a way to hold her accountable (by way of her resignation) and rebuild the ballet that has been loved by so...
Read moreAs a former patron, supporter, and friend of the Lexington Ballet: I am heartbroken for the students, families, company members, and volunteers affected by the mismanagement of the CEO/Executive Director over the past 2 years. Many families, including my own, have spent decades supporting this organization and are now alienated by the current administration. There is no financial transparency and no communication. All members of the faculty, company, and school abruptly quit, and the organization has been evicted from where they have held residency for 40 years. I encourage all prospective students, families, and incoming company artists to do your due diligence before committing to this...
