So I've had mixed experiences with this restaurant depending on who is taking the orders at the front counter. It's kind of like Chipotle you order at the counter and then somebody brings your food to you but you have to get your salt pepper syrup ketchup even your drink. I've had really a good experiences with the very tall black man with stylish hair and the lady with blonde and gray hair she is hard worker. There's also a younger guy looks like he might be in high school or early college the other folks will let the door slam on you or tell you when you ask for napkins where to find them and to get them yourself. I only mentioned this because there is a space for tipping I believe the tipping started at 20%. I am fine to tip for great service or exceptional experiences. But to pay for my food and I have to get everything including my silverware etc I'm probably not apt to tip unless again there's a great personality or a great extra steps. When I say hit or miss it has been the eggs and I couldn't quite figure this out but didn't want to criticize because the biscuits and gravy is truly out of this world have never had anything like it.they pride themselves on being local and specifically say that the eggs are from local farmers. Today my eggs were off and they had a bad aftertaste and I felt sick after eating there. While leaving the parking lot there was a very large at Ford f250 four-door long bed pickup truck.. the woman driving the truck got out and summoned/yelled at two employees to get over there and get the eggs out of her truck. In front of the public she might say hey use the boy's names and say can you please help me deliver these eggs. It was actually her rudeness. And the appearance of looking like perhaps Melissa etheridge back in the 1980s that Drew my attention to her. Each of the boys took 16 cartons of Kroger eggs that were marked down it said $2 on each of the eggs and they were expiring today. I shouldn't say on all of them but the label was $2 on all the eggs that I could see and the eggs right in front of me had today's date as the expiration she told the boys make sure they use those eggs first before they use the white ones. Okay for charging the premium that they do I expected fresh eggs or eggland's Best or as they claim to be locally sourced from local farmers. This explains why my eggs had an aftertaste. I expect better. From someone who appeared to possibly be the owner or the leading manage r from a place that has such a following. I'm disappointed mostly in the dishonesty but also the treatment of this woman toward the workers in...
Read moreStopped in doodles today for brunch. Walked in to an empty room and front counter. Staff let us wait ~10 minutes before we realized the person to order from was around the corner. Took our order, asked for a tip for their service, then told us to seat ourselves. All condiments, silver and paper wares, etc; are self serve. Ordering is the LAST interaction you will have with the staff. Girl behind the counter rolled her eyes and sighed when I requested syrup which was not on the counter, and gave me cold syrup from a to-go container in the refrigerator. Gave me one small paper cup of jelly for 8 pieces of toast, which was also not on the counter. You will be expected to pour all condiments into containers at the counter, they do not want you taking bottles to the table, not even of salt and pepper. There was a short grey hair in my potatoes. Had to source our own to-go boxes. Food wasn’t bad but I definitely would never pay $40 for 4 subpar eggs and 2 pancakes again. Ordered a breakfast biscuit that only came with eggs and cheese, didn’t realize a protein would be a-la-carte at $10. Completely unpleasant dining experience, overpriced and underwhelming food and portion sizes, you cannot enjoy your meal for having to get up and run around to serve yourself. The most unreasonable part is them expecting a tip the minute you walk in the door. I would not revisit...
Read moreTL;DR: huge portions of delicious food; fun and friendly atmosphere. Lots of options fit locavores! Highly recommended; introverts should avoid peak hours if possible (we caught the tail end of the early bunch rush, which was okay).
After about a million people recommended Doodles, I finally managed to have time to go when it was open. The recommendations definitely panned out.
Come prepared for huge portions of delicious food. I was under the weather, so I ordered one of the smaller non-a la carte items, the BELT (a BLT with egg) It was delicious, though I mostly skipped the lovely flat fries because I could barely finish the sandwich! I'm not a huge eater, so if you like larger potions the size will probably be spot on for you.
My sis ordered a plate of beignets for the table. They were heavenly--crisp dough puffs with melt-in-your mouth insides, generously coated in powdered sugar. Not my usual breakfast fare (I'm a savory-breakfast person) but delightful nonetheless.
Sis also had the French toast special, a toffee bread pudding that she reported was divine (though she couldn't finish hers, either). I don't recall what my brother-in-law ordered, but I do remember that he enjoyed it.
Overall, a fun spot for brunch with my family. I'll definitely be dining here again when I...
