Here are some overpriced examples: Last week I asked my wife for some fresh cilantro. Both Nam Dae Mun and Hong Kong Market sell these for .33 at 3/1.00. She comes home with just 1 bunch for .99. Actually it cost $1.089 cents not .99. So it's 3 and 1/3 times more expensive to buy 1 bunch of cilantro here. When I pointed this out to my wife she said "So what, it's like 50 cents." I said "No! It's 75.66 cents." She said "Whatever." I hope you can see through this story the devastating effects food depot can have on a family, and on a community.
Here's another example: Cheap-o Cereal here is $1.66. Really that is $1.83 (or 182.6). Kroger sells cheap-o cereal for 1.24. So you are wasting .59 cents if you buy cheap-o cereal here. Probably like 62 cents after tax.
People see stories like this and say "Aha! This evil store is ripping off it's community!" ... It's not. It's just keeping people who sit in the aisles and think about prices out of our way. I buy my 6 packs here, I buy meat I want to cook that day here, I buy day old produce here, and I look for deals on fruit.
It's a good store, and it has a decent variety of produce. They sell my 6 pack of Miller High life for 4.34 which is actually 4.78. Kroger sells it for 5 dollars. I save .22 cents here at least once a week, and I look around and save even more when I'm in. ... Of course for every 22 cents I save my wife goes off and wastes 75.66 cents on cilantro. Don't even get me started on...
Read moreTerrible. After waiting 5 minutes for the cashier to finish her convo with previous customer, I asked the manager on duty if they had a certain product that I spent 20 minutes looking for. She said she knows they have it, just doesn't know where it is. And that was that. No offer to help look for it. I said "So I have to drive all the way to Kroger" for 1 item I need, you have, but don't want to look for? The cashier shrugged her shoulders. I only go here to save time because it's 3 minutes from my house. But lately I end up having to go to another store 15 minutes away because I don't find what I need. And they never ask if I found everything I needed. So there is no benefit for me to shop here. Also, they are not very good at checking for expired products. If you do not check all the dates, you will surely bring home something expired. Usually expired months ago. RIP Food Depot. For...
Read moreThis WAS my go to grocery store since it is so close to my house. I have had it with the employees at this location. The cashiers are super slow & rude. It seems like the dumber you are the greater chance you will be hired to check customers out & waste their valuable time that they can't get back. They just started labeling their wic items because I suggested it. They have customers running back & forth to get different items because they're labeled incorrectly or not labeled at all. Then they gossip amongst each other about the customers as if the customers should know the ins & outs of the food depot business when they don't. The cashiers could care less about...
