I'm a first time homeowner and I've spent thousands at this location updating my home. Employees (except for one of the managers) seem friendly enough, but there never seems to be anyone around to ask for help and things are often hard to find. We also replaced all of our carpet through them and because...life, we needed to do the upstairs and the downstairs installs on different days. It was the biggest hassle to actually get that to work. It took four visits to the store and over 4 hours to get that worked out. It shouldn't have been that big a deal and if I'd known that, I would have gone through someone else. My biggest beef though, is that after hearing from dozens of people (including dog trainers) that this location was dog friendly, I decided to take my dog with me to work on some basic manners and listening skills in a public area (as responsible dog owners often do). I was with a group of 3-4 other dogs. We asked if we were allowed to train in the store and one of the employees (possibly a manager) said that was fine as long as we stayed away from the loading areas, that they loved it when people brought in dogs and that people trained there with dogs frequently. We did our best to keep the dogs away from high traffic areas. All dogs were well behaved and we got a lot of smiles and friendly comments from customers and employees alike. About 20 minutes into training, a manager showed up and asked us to leave. Several of us said we were planning to purchase things after training, but he told us people were complaining about our dogs and that we still needed to leave. I called their customer service later because I know people train at that location all of the time (including dog trainers and clients) without issue. I asked if it was because we were in a group or if I could come in separately to train my dog and shop. I was told it was perfectly fine for me to bring my dog with me to look around and not even buy anything, but that I absolutely couldn't "train" while I was there. They specifically mentioned working on loose leash while walking up and down aisles. That's probably one of the stupidest policies I've ever heard. It's like saying kids are welcome, but you can't teach them to behave politely or work on listening skills or discipline while out and about. I've had no problems training and shopping at any other dog-friendly businesses and I felt so embarrassed and anxious because I was kicked out of a location that welcomes all other dogs (even off leash ones from the stories I've heard) except for our small group of well-behaved,...
Read moreMy wife and I are putting in vinyl floors in our home. We went to home Depot because I worked for them for 3.5 years and we love to shop from HD. However, the experience I'm about to share, will never be forgotten. 2 weeks ago we had to purchase the vinyl floors online because they weren't carried in the store. Our concern was that we wouldn't be able to participate in the installation incentives. After calling in, I was transferred 3 times and I waited for 10 minutes before I finally hung up(Friday). To my surprise, the flooring supervisor called me back and apologized for missing my call. I thought it was incredible customer service and was happy he called back. No other sites did this. After explaining our situation, he stated that we would be able to participate in the incentive, but that we would have to get a measurement taken. They scheduled it a couple days out and I met the gentleman who measured my house(Thursday). He was very professional and quite nice. Once he was done, he said we would have to wait two days before hearing back from HD flooring installations. Sure enough we did and the installation agent left me a voicemail. Which I still have. In her voice mail she said to call her back. This was Saturday. Monday morning, I called her back and she stated that the installation would cost $5,643 and some change. Immediately I about had a heart attack. The room and 6 stairs we wanted done was less than 500 SQ ft. Advertising said that it was going to cost us $1.49 a square ft. I'm no math mathematician, but simple math $1.49*500=$745. I guessed the stairs would cost a little more, but no where near $5,643. After I inquired to what the cost included, she said that I would have to buy the product again because they make it at a special Warehouse. I told her we already had it and it was vinyl. Not engineered flooring. She then said I know sir but that is the price. After I stated again that we don't need the product, she said, o well I can send you to the store. This is when I had it. I told her definitely not because they had sent me to you. We wasted 2 weeks waiting for this bid. In my personal feelings, this is bait and switch at its finest. Hopefully HD can review this policy because instead of working with the customer, they like to hike the prices, and not work with...
Read moreThis past summer, the clip on my WORX PowerShare leaf blower stopped working; the front tube kept falling off because the spring inside the clip was suddenly missing. Three weeks ago, I went to Home Depot to find a little spring that could fit just inside the clip. I checked the various hardware aisles near the nails, screws, and door knobs.
Since I couldn't find anything on my own, I stopped an employee who was going into the break room. He looked at the black clip I had brought. I showed him the little circle under the clip where the spring is supposed to fit. He recommended that I get a faucet repair kit and named, not only the aisle number (which we couldn't see from where we were), but also the bay number. I was amazed, but suspicious he could know that from where we'd been standing. Who ever heard of a sink faucet repair kit with parts that could fit a leaf blower?
I went to that aisle and bay number and found a little faucet repair kit. The packaging was clear, so I could see inside it. Indeed there were two springs that looked like they would line up with the clip's inner circle. From the outside, it seemed one would be small enough, in diameter and height, to fit in the clip's circle between it and the blower tube.
I bought the little kit and took it home. Sure enough, the little spring fit right inside and kept the blower tube from falling off while I used it! I was so excited I could repair it so cheaply on my own.
I was ignorant enough to not grab the employee's name and I feel sorry about that. But I just could not believe that he could look at the blower clip I had brought and successfully name the exact location in that HUGE store where I could find a spring, in a repair kit made for sink faucets and not battery-powered outdoor tools. It was amazing.
Home Depot didn't earn a ton of money when I bought that little repair kit, but I figured what I could give them was this review to say how amazing that staff member was...
