Pretty much what you'd expect from a small store in a difficult area; prices are a little higher & they have brands you've never heard of. I don't typically buy staples there. The reason I shop there is because they have cuts of meat not available anywhere else, it's generally decent quality, & the sale prices are good. It's also faster & not nearly as inconvenient as going to the nearby Kroger.
The only serious complaint I have is an interaction with a very rude head butcher. Edwards Food Giant market themselves as "The Meat People" -- but when I asked for some ground pork the butcher was clearly very irritated, more than a little hostile, & aggressively overbearing. My request was apparently too much trouble & not worth his time. He grudgingly brought me one package & told me in no uncertain terms that he would NOT do it again. Another person was with me & witnessed the interaction. I asked what her impression of his behavior was. She concurred, so I know it wasn't just my perception. I've worked retail & it's a tough job, but there is no excuse to attempt to bully & try to intimidate a customer -- or behave that way towards anyone at any time, as I suspect this man makes a habit of doing. I'm not some "Karen" but wish now that I'd gotten his name & called the corporate office to report what happened. I would've accepted being told no if this man had been the slightest bit...
Read moreSmaller, "old school" grocery store. There is a deli and meat department, as well as a bakery area. The produce department was on the small side, but what I saw looked fresh. I grabbed up some Honeycrisp apples, and they were quite good. The store was bright and clean, and the employees were pleasant enough. The problem I've found with Edwards are the prices. Barring weekly sales, items here are overpriced, eclipsing even what Kroger charges. As an example, a 1- pound package of Nathan's hot dogs was a little over 6 bucks. A quart of heavy cream was in the neighborhood of 8 dollars. I enjoy shopping at Edwards, if for no other reason than it reminds me of the grocery store my mom used to drag me around many, many years ago. In a way it's almost like time has stood still inside the store, and that's not always a bad thing. If you go, just prepare to pay a little extra for your (shopping) trip down...
Read moreI went in today and spent 30.99 and the sale is if you spend 15.00 you get a free case of water. Well I asked about the water & cashier said they were out but another cashier said they will get a truck tomorrow. So naturally I'm thinking I can bring receipt tomorrow to get water. The cashier asked manager & he said I would have to spend another 15.00 tomorrow. Honestly that does not make sense. I spent what I had today expecting Food Giant to honor what's being advertised. There's not a sign stating if out of stock there's no rain check. I am beyond upset. . If you're out of stock take the signs down. That's not very professional at all. I want Food Giant to honor what's being advertised. I don't have...
