I arrived at Mr Chens at approximately 2:50 to catch the lunch special , which ends at 3:00 pm . I was promptly seated and gave the waitress my drink order . I sat there and watched her go back and forward to other table before bringing my drink 10 minutes later . No problem , it’s 3:00 pm now and I still ordered the lunch special . The problem is while waiting on my food , the waitress walked by my empty glass numerous times , all the while refilling others folks drinks . After about 15 minutes , another waitress refilled my glass . Approximately 10 minutes later my food arrived , not by the waitress that took the drink order , but by the waitress that refilled my glass . Now I have been to Mr Chens numerous times and I know they all work along side each other , taking care of customers . I have eaten there enough that most times I am recognized by face . These weren’t the same employees , but that is no excuse . I was never checked on again or got a refill . I took upon myself to go to the register to pay , since I never received the bill . You can bet I didn’t leave a tip , which I always do . The people that got the PREMIUM SERVICE were NOT BROWN PEOPLE . They had constant service while I set across from them and watched . Unless they were blind , I am sure they saw this too . I WILL NOT GO BACK TO MR CHENS AGAIN , AFTER YEARS OF GOING THERE . The food was...
Read moreUPDATE, May 2025 : Sadly Mr. Chen's restaurant has closed. Was unable to note this on my review of it as Google reviews for it is also closed. The space is now used for expanded products, & some renovation in the rest of the store has taken place as well.
2021 : Great variety of specialty produce, frozen products, noodles, condiments & seasonings, & all manner of Asian staples. Also has refrigerated items. Fresh & frozen seafood, shellfish, & meats are at the back of the store. (Caveat: sometimes the seafood looks good, sometimes it's awful.) Weekends are pretty busy so the fresh produce tends to be very depleted by Monday; the best day for vegetables seems to be Friday.
The employees for the most part do not speak English so getting any assistance isn't likely. Finding a specific item is a matter of wandering the aisles - an adventure in itself. Allow yourself plenty of time. **Note: Both Google Translate & Apple have free scan-&-translate apps, which might be helpful in attempting to read product labels - or maybe you'll get a few laughs out of it :-)
There's even a good assortment of cooking utensils, pots, serveware, & dishes. Check out Mr. Chen's Restaurant too, just...
Read moreThis is a large Asian market that has almost everything. Prices were reasonable and it has a large inventory or sauces for cooking. Have you ever wanted to create your own Ramen? You could do that with their noodle packs, sauces, and spices. It also featured many unique snack foods. There's a lot to see here and if you're looking to take your cooking up a notch then this is a great source. I make a hot pepper sauce using peppers and tamarind. They sell a large container of pureed tamarind at the best price I've seen in town. Oh, and yes, they do sell Mochi. update: I forgot to mention that there's a restaurant within this grocery store but it's behind the cashier to the left as you walk in. Today, I saw security working at the door. That was nice. The shopping center seems old and rundown but I don't care, it means prices are good and I'd argue...
