Ma & Pa's Candy — Local services in Long Grove

This place has the absolute best caramel I've ever had. The mint meltaways are superb. The customer service is next-level. I live in the city but am in the area a few times a year for business. I went to Ma & Pa's for the first time and fell in love with the place immediately. It looks like the old fashioned candy shops I recall from when I was a little kid. I bought a bunch of candy and it was excellent, so of course I went back the next time I was in the area. I got to talking to Jeff (who I believe is the owner) and told him that I love caramel though I'm not a big fan of sea salt caramels, but that I like the way his have a few grains of coarse salt sprinkled on top, so I can scrape them off and enjoy the candy without the salty part. Fast forward 3 or 4 months and I went back and ordered the sea salt caramels. Jeff had remembered our conversation and told me he made a batch without the sea salt for me. He said he figured I'd return at some point and had them set aside. I was speechless! This type of individual attention is why I prefer to support family-owned small businesses whenever I can. Even for a small business, this was above and beyond. My only complaint about this shop is that it is so far away! This place is great for the novelty and convenience that it is. Anyone complaining the candy is expensive has no room to talk if they have ever bought a $3 glass of soda at a restaurant. Obviously a 2 liter from Walmart is half the cost and twice the quantity, and when comparing prices for bulk candy online, it’s a little under twice the price for the same quantity at Ma & Pa’s. Don’t get me wrong, I like my 5lb, inexpensive as possible, online orders of Swedish Fish as much as the next person, but anyone demanding atmosphere, instant gratification and inexpensive product, needs to find a golden ticket in their Wonka bar for a free tour of his chocolate factory, in which they will fall victim to one of its morality test traps and be given a reality...

I called and asked if they had tart and tiny. They did! Score right? Nah I should of listened to the fact they don’t sell and she was giving me the last of the container. Omg if candy could be any staler !! It was horrible I got a nice bellyache from it. I’ll never go back there. I probably ate a half a gallon of dust they were so old!! See jokes on them I would of bought 2# a week from them. She then informs me no bulk anymore now we will have the little packages. Oh of course you will. I’m sure they make more money on it that way. Of course screw the customer !!
