I have been attending virtual wine tastings at Corked since late April and can't say enough about this place. I have yet to try a wine that I didn't like and best of all I have tried wines that I might not otherwise have been exposed to. The virtual wine tastings have me an insight as to the true purpose of this establishment:
The owners want to bring the feeling of the wine country experience to Long Grove and the surrounding communities. I was able to learn from three different wine makers how each does something unique to its wine, yet quality was a main ingredient to each vineyard's success. I believe this to be the mission at Corked. Quality wines are being offered by people who truly love to share some of their personal favorites.
The atmosphere is relaxing and inviting with a large patio, a lawn seating area, and what looks to be a very welcoming and comfortable indoor space that will be available once Covid-19 restrictions are lifted. While they are not yet serving food, I have been told that upon official opening, they will be offering about a dozen small plate options to complement the wine selection.
This is a family-run establishment that has the makings of a winner in downtown Long Grove. My wife and I went there for a Sunday afternoon, but it looks like an evening under the lights would be equally pleasant.
I can't wait until this place has the green light to offer everything it has planned this summer. I can see this as a great option for date nights, after work socializing or even a family meet up spot on a casual afternoon like the one we just had on Sunday.
Cheers to the owners of Corked for bringing...
Read moreNormally we love this place but tonight the service was lackluster. While we are empathetic that places are struggling with having enough employees to handle the reopening of the economy as things begin to return to a sense of normalcy, what we experienced tonight was truly disappointing. When we arrived around 8 pm we were greeted by a very pleasant person who seemed genuinely interested in ensuring we have a great experience, explaining several potential possibilities, all contingent on the behaviors of current patrons. We ultimately decided to take a table outside, despite the wind and earlier inclement weather. The kind gentleman wiped down the wet table and chairs and we were sat with menus and water and a promise that our server would be with us shortly. That's where things went awry. Long story short, we were forgotten......and thus we left. All I can say is that the service industry needs to get its sh*t together. Inflation is approaching 7.5% and is expected to climb. Get...
Read moreWent to corked to check it out. I'm not a wine nut but wanted to try it out. We ended up grabbing some seats on the patio. This was a plus because food service was available. We ordered the carpaccio, and the whitefish dip. Oh my, sooooo good. I'm looking forward to trying other dishes. We let the sever recommend a wine and left it on in their hands. They recommended a pinot noir for $48 a bottle that was perfect for the food and reasonably priced. Overall a great experience with a pleasant place to hang out, knowledgeable staff, and reasonable prices for the quality provided. Also, we inquired about dogs and they told us they are welcome on the lawn. Can't wait to return for another wine recommendation and hang with the dogs...
