We used to dine-in at Village Tavern Long Grove on numerous occasions up until a few years ago. Yesterday, after a long day in downtown Chicago (where we could have chosen to eat anywhere!!), we decided to support one of our local restaurants...we all had a taste for Village Tavern. We arrived at the restaurant, however had to take our meals to go. Customer friendly...not really, flexible on simple requests (which we were NOT EXPECTING TO GET FOR FREE)...NO...quality/quantity of our 4 meals plus side orders...definitely not worth the outrageous bill of almost $80.00 (yes AND I also included a tip)!! I was looking forward to a delicious 1/2lb Cheeseburger (bun on side & extra pickles). SEE PHOTO..THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I RECEIVED FOR $15.00...ABSOLUTELY unbelievable!! Beef stew-mostly gravy...broasted chicken-extremely dry...French fries-stale & soggy...fish fry-I was informed by my family who ordered it that the flavor was ok but because we were taking it to go (I had a paralyzed family member with us) they would only give us 2 pieces (for $15.00 "all u can eat if u dine in") so I had to PURCHASE 2 additional pieces of fish because the 2 pieces for $15 were not a sufficient portion for a male!!! See the photo if my 1/2??Lb Cheeseburger EXACTLY how I received it from the restaurant...hmm is it missing anything??? Pickles that I requested, lettuce, tomato...ANYTHING??? SORRY VILLAGE TAVERN OF LONG GROVE...YOU WILL NO LONGER HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CHEAT THIS FAMILY OUT OF AN "ENJOYABLE, QUALITY MEAL". Choosing to support & use a local business for our dinner last night was a...
Read moreI rarely give below 5 stars, and we honestly loved everything about this place except for our service staff.
The food was delicious, it was our first time and honestly the specialty chocolate bacon bbq burger for chocolate festival was awesome. I loved it. The kids ate all their kids meals and didn't even complain once! It was truly great.
The atmosphere is great and the decor is awesome. Keeping true to the original history. Really loved the history on the menus to talk to the kids about it. It was fun to talk about covered wagons!
I was really disappointed in our server. After we ordered drinks my 5 yo jokingly asked our server "So, when is the lemonade going to be here?" Also, for reference it was 80 degrees outside and everyone was parched and hot. Even still the server rolled her eyes at him and just walked away. I thought ok Ill give it another chance and let it slide.
A second time my other son (after I instructed him to do so as he's 11) asked for more water and lemonade. And she said "Oh well I'll get to it I have another table over there I'm taking care of" (PS that table was full of adults).
I get it, maybe you've been in the business a long time and you're busy, but she just seemed genuinely not friendly. I still tipped 20% and would have tipped more if it weren't for this. But even my 11 year old asked if he did something wrong. I don't recommend Jess as a server.
Otherwise, cool place and good food. The overall experience seems dependent...
Read moreThis is the first time that Village Tavern didn't live up to it's service. My wife and I were immediately seated, considering it was Apple Fest weekend, at a table for 2 along a wall, not bad at all. It did not appear to be that busy. The problem was after 20mins of sitting there a server explained to us that "Pete" was our server but he was busy and this "server" was helping him. Okay, no problem, but now 20mins+ no silverware, no water, nothing. Another female server came by and asked if we needed anything, we said yes we liked to order. Well she disappeared, we were ready to get up and leave when "server" came by and said he overheard our disappointment and asked what can he get us to drink? We placed our drink order and after another 10mins supposedly "Pete" brought our drinks and appetizer plates but never took our food order. A few minutes later another female server came by and took the appetizer plates away, we never had any food yet whatsoever. Finally "server" took our food order, which then took awhile so much I said to my wife 5 or 10 more minutes we walk out. Luckily our food finally arrived. We never knew who "Pete" was. "Server" took care of us and apparently we weren't his table. It felt like we were the table in limbo. They know you're there but nobody knows who your server is. Very...
